Has anyone read it? Is it good?

he felt the need to write a book about running simple? doesn't that seem a little counter productive?

What is this letsrun fascination with "blue collar"? There is nothing blue collar about distance running.

I just got my copy, and it's a good read so far. The author puts a lot of good, intuitive advice down on paper. I initially thought the "run simple" idea ran counter to writing an entire detailed book about the concept, but the more I considered it, it made sense. A lot of people who run are conditioned to think the activity is complicated. Wear the latest Dri-Fit fabrics, the most advanced shoes, the most accurate GPS watch and heart rate monitoring, measure splits to the 100th of a second, etc. All that brainwashing has to be undone, because most runners don't understand how to just lace up the shoes and head out the door anymore. Obviously anyone can *do* that, but most people can't feel *comfortable* doing it. They're inclined to keep up with trends, measure, and calculate, not to simply do it. That is where this book come in.

Anyway, that is how I made sense of the question, "why the hell would you need a book to tell you how to run simple"? It's definitely worth adding to the runner's library. Pick up a copy.

decent book idea, seems to me from the description that the book is geared towards the hobby jogger population, and that's totally fine because the book will sell better that way. That's why we have 5 million different versions of "5 easy steps to your first 5k" and only a scattered few in the vein of "once a runner" or "running with the buffaloes".

anyway, sounds like an interesting book. I always laugh when I see people who are obviously out for a 30-45min run and they've got water belts and goo packets and the like.

I doubt it. Blue collar runners don't know how to read or write.

Ron Daws "Self Made Olympian" is the true blue collar running book.

AMEN! The fact that no one on Letsrun ever talks about this book (or knows who Ron Daws is for that matter) shows that they wouldn't know "blue-collar" if it chomped them on the huevos.

A lot of people know of that book and have heard of Daws. It's not an easy book to get your hands on though. Ron was a bad ass who took preparation and tactics to a new level. He definitely made the most of the modest abilities he had.

While that may be the "ultimate", Run Simple could qualify as the most "accessible". It applies to a much wider range of abilities, and isn't just for those looking to run to the limits of their potential. There's room on the shelf for both books.

Daws ate nails for breakfast. That man was a real machine. One of my heroes.
