Is the soreness, flatness, and tightness associated with longer runs due to a lack of carbohydrates or due to muscle breakdown due to lack of quick proteins? Essentially im asking if one could choose between Cytomax (straight carbs) or Whey Protein (straight protein), which would be better? Would a mixture be the best? |

I'll answer seriously. The DOM is just part of the adaptation process. Mostly due to microscopic tears during eccentric muscle contractions. You need both carbs and protein as soon as possible after a workout. Within 10 minutes, if possible. Doesn't have to be a drink, solid food and water works fine. Whey protein with raw cacao powder, coconut water, and a banana is great. If you want to protect yourself against soreness/tightness, it's been proven that running downhill will cause the most soreness BUT after you recover from a downhill run, you won't get as sore for the next two weeks. |
