When will she be back home in Albuquerque ?
When will she be back home in Albuquerque ?
Well, the quest is now over and settled. May she make peace with the givens of her life. I Imagine it's hard for a woman w/ a stratospheric 2:15 world record to walk away without not just the gold but any Olympic medal.

2:15>Olympic gold
Everyone puts so much value on something so insignificant.
The Olympics were a target but not one she needed to obtain to solidify her status, WMM made her who she is, not some 26.2 mile race held in poor conditions on bad courses since 2000.
The world is about money and nothing gets you more money than winning a race like NYC,BOSTON,CHICAGO,LONDON marathons. How many 1 and dones have come and gone through the Olympics, its the least predictable race their is unless athletes like Sammy Wanijiru and even he started to falter before he "mysteriously" died.
Agreed. But by all accounts she herself put a great deal of weight on it, considering her reactions to failed attempts to garner the gold.
She has no good reason to hang her head.
Paula is still in the team. She will have a tempo run.
Will spare herself the embarrassment of losing before the home crowd. Like Alan Webb, she was a great not destined to have Olympic success.
Absolutely lovely comments following the article.
maybe she will run after all. https://twitter.com/paulajradcliffe
I was just about to start a thread on this topic and then found this one had already been started. My subject was going to be "Let's hope this isn't true - UK paper says Racliffe to pull out of the Olympic marathon."
The Daily Mail wrote:
‘The time to make a decision has arrived and there’s only one decision to make,’ said the source. ‘Paula is not fit to run at the moment. There will be an announcement shortly.’

Radcliffe tweeted:
"Hurt by dailymail & whoever thinks [they] know my situation, before even do final test run. Not looking good but my heartbreaking news to break!"

Nope.
A lot of runners can time trial to fast times. Any one of 5+ Kenyan men could break the WR if everything lined up (weather, pacing, competition). The only reason this isn't true in women's is that the event is still very shallow. When Kenyan and Ethiopian women start attacking the marathon in numbers as the men are, 2:15 for the women will be like 2:04 is for men now. Exceptional, but not enough to declare anyone GOAT.
The "insignificant" Olympic marathon, on the other hand, is a measure of ability to target, train for, and execute in COMPETITION with the world's best. No specific custom conditions for fan favorites. No pacers. No staged time trialing. No appearance fee politics keeping runners out. One race. The fact that Radcliffe had a stratospheric (for now) 2:15 and yet NOT ONCE pulled off even a top-ten in the OM says a lot about her career.

Are you even aware that she won the WC's marathon?
Geb had the sense to avoid the 2004 marathon as it was too hot.
according to Flotracks tweet a few minutes ago...she's officially out now.
Sorry for her, but also, kind of release, she was a real distraction...and this is no surprise... she's over the hill.
Kara Goucher has also tweeted her condolences to Paula.
Keitany wins Shobukhova second E.Kiplagat wears the bronzer and Flanagan gets tin

Subject to drugtesting results.
How would you rate Radcliffe's career?
Olympics - best result 4th
World champs - 2 golds
World xc - 2 gold 3 silver 1 bronze
Euro track - 1 gold
Euro xc - 2 gold
And obviously a monster marathon WR
Certainly a solid career but feels like she should have done more.
With all these set backs she will be so motivated for Rio and is basically a lock for marathon in 2016. She'll only be 42 years young.
Since when does Alan Webb hold a WR? You learn something new every day.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
