Well... I posted a few weeks ago about an injury I have been having. It floats around my hip and lower back, as well as into my glute and groin. The pain originated in the hip and groin region, and since has traveled to the low back and....down my leg to the knee and foot. I will be seeing a doctor in about a month when I am back in America, but until then I don't have much options (or much money)
So, my question is this: Right now I run in Nike Frees most of the time, and literally only 6 miles per week (increasing 10% a week). I feel that my knee is relatively unstable after a run, and the slight ache in my foot and knee bother me. Not by any means a lot, but at least a little bit. While I believe that this is a result of my hip situation, I wanted to hear opinions on whether or not buying a solid running shoe would help. I really don't have the money, but if I really thought that it would help me, then I think I could spring for it.
I am concerned that the foot and knee problems are being caused by possible over pronation in my right foot. I don't believe just slapping on a more stable shoe with fix it (I think that the hip dysfunction will just manifest somewhere else down the leg), but I think that at least it would give me a stable point to run on at least half of my runs. Mixing the frees with something like the Asics 2150 (similar to what I used to run with), might help me stay healthy or at least not get worse before I see the doctor.
I have tried the barefoot thing, and part of me thinks that the reason I hvae been relatively unsuccessful is the fact that I have had this dsyfunction in my hip area since high school. Anytime I ramp up miles (whether with running shoes or not), I always have some form of groin or hip pain. However, maybe it would be at least improved with real running shoes!
Thoughts?
