Is 17 too young to run a marathon?
Is 17 too young to run a marathon?
Not if he hobby jogs it. I have a co worker who "runs" a marathon every month. I was impressed until I looked his times up on Athlinks and his average time was 6 hours. To me that closer to a road hike than a run.
So it depends on the definition of running. 1970's running vs 2010's running. Boston Qualifier running vs Rock and Roll running. Racing club running vs Team in Training/Race for the Cure running.
Im 17 and my goal is to break 3 this year, no, run!
No, it is not too young. I did 2 thons the summer I was 16. I went in to xc in the fall a MUCH better runner. Go for it.
Prepare properly and respect the distance. If so, yes.
No. Many report of kids your age doing 100-milers.
i wasnt saying it is too young im encouraging it
I'm 16 and already did 2 I'm fast enough to be around 3:05 but went out to fast on both and hit the wall and finished in 4 hours.
go for it
Absolutly not. Ever heard of Mitch Kingery?
Looking back, it was probably better to run a marathon at age 17 than at age 37. Probably would have recovered better and less interruption in training. After 35 the body doesn't bounce back like it used to.
