wow
he couda gone mid-3'27 off hard pace !!!

That's ridiculous. 53.85 last lap?
Impressive. He should go for a WR if he wasn't already trying.
yep, we need a billed world record attempt. make the whole meet about it.
he actually started his sprint before the bell, maybe 20 - 30m ( have to recheck vid )
quite honestly it looked a mid-3'30 clocking at the bell & even middle of stretch-drive
he moves so deceptively quickly...
Not to sound like Clifford Calvin, but I though 3:29 washis ceiling. This is getting interesting!

leave out morons
he ran that high-3'29 off a derisory pace with a stumble in stretch
he ran 3'30 in rieti last year with suicidal start from wabbit & little drafting
he already was in mid-3'28 shape in a perfect race from last year
his "ceiling", has moved to high, maybe mid-3'27 currently
a 58s 2nd lap looked to have destroyed anything <3'30
The rabbit hit 400 in 53.xx, not sure where Kiprop was.

That's not ridiculous. One should close faster on the last lap, and if you're average in teh 56's, 53.85 means you were going at a pretty good pace. This isn't a 4 flat miler closing in 53.85, he's a guy running only 3 second pace off of that. It does mean he probbly could have gone a tiny bit faster, but you should close a bit faster than your first 1100 pace if you went out right.
so he went,
55
1:53 (58)
2:52 (59)
3:28 (36)????
the only guy in the race he mighta any marginal fear of was nixon, who also has gone 3'29
however, that move 20 - 30m from bell tells me he fears no one now
they might even "team" the 1500, with each leading for a lap, with nixon taking it to the bell in hopefully ~ 2'34
they can race the last lap & sweep the medals

not true
i'm pretty sure komen went ~ 56 in his 3'29.4
these guys need to be going low-2'32 at bell to stand chance of even pace last lap, but the pacers can't take them there that fast
I didn't say his last lap was ridiculous, I said the time was. I'm trying to figure out what his last lap actually was.

official leader splits
53.69
1:52.23
2:49.43
3:28.89!!
last 300 was 39.45
moves from 20th to 5th all-time
probably where he shouda been 1y+ ago
suppose, better late than never...
get another gold & he really needs to target noah's 3'28.12 as late-season target
( albeit noah's 3'43.4 is worth more like ~ 3'26.7
& maybe couda got even the 3'26.00wr in rieti '99 if he'd run the 1500 that day )
morceli's 3'27.37 looks target for next year...
confirms somewhat lines of fit i've had for him this year & i did think 3'27 was eminently possible
some prelims, based on somewhat on shitty 1'43.1s where he was proverbial mile behind wabbit at bell - shouda gone sub-1'43 if he'd followed closer
47.0 / 1'42.8 ->2'12.04 , 3'27.71
47.0 / 1'42.7 ->2'11.88 , 3'27.36
47.1 / 1'42.8 ->2'11.96 , 3'27.37
47.1 / 1'42.7 ->2'11.80 , 3'27.02
forget the 1500 - he shouda get those sometime in the near future & usurp morceli's 3rd on list, but i don't see 3'25.99 ever
however, he has a realistic chance of stealing noah's 1kwr, which is piss-weak
i really think it's worth pursuing regularly, as it's only wr he can dream off
I was in Monaco tonight and it really was a jog to the bell. Asbel looked so incredibly relaxed I have no doubt that he could have went 3:27 low off a faster pace. The rabbit got a little too far ahead and wasn't much use for drafting. Robby Andrews looked absolutely atrocious.
Kiprop's 500m portion splits
500 1:09.4h
1000 2:21.6h (1:12.2h)
1500 3:28.88 (1:07.2h)
Last 500 / 400 / 300 / 200
1:07.2h / 53.43 / 39.45 / 26.1h
