How much do you spend on vacation, as a percentage of your annual income? I'm asking about the total roll-up (hotel, plane, car rental, hookers, blow, dining out, etc.)
Just curious as to what is "normal" vacation spending.

sadly I decided to go to college and am employed in a career that pays crap so I have to use any extra cash to pay my loans each month and therefore cannot/choose not to go on vacation.
i'm 27, this summer took a vacation that was about ten days and spent a combined total of about $4k.
My wife and I usually take shorter vacations that tend to be in our region. I say we spend about $2k/year on average. Of course, every few years we'll go on a big trip to somewhere quite a bit more expensive (Hawaii, for example).
My family was just on one of our biggest vacations ever. Probably put out close to 10K for the 4 of us. It was awesome though.
Normally we don't do big vacations, just shorter trips or long weekends close by.
~7%
Should be more. Been thinking lately I don't enjoy life enough. The pressure to work all of the time seems more and more senseless as a get older.
I usually take a bunch of 4 day weekends to go camping or to the beach house as my vacations ($500 to $1,000). On top of that we also go to Hawaii for two weeks every winter which we keep at about $2,500. It's only $2,500 because she grew up there, still has a car there and we stay with her family. So the only cost is air fare ($600 each) food (we spend about the same as if we were home) and entertainment (we usually just hang out at the beach or with her family so not much there either).
We are cheap skates, but we also take long weekends / mini vacations at least once a month. I'd say total anual cost of this is over $10k a year.
Remember, money is the most important thing in the world. Keep working hard to make that cash.
Debbie Wasserman Shultz head of the DNC who is totally middle class and has been in an elected goverment postion her entire life just went on a carribean cruise with her husband and three children. just the cruise was $33k + for the week. That's when she not at her undisclosed $500k new Hampshire vacation home. That's how the 99% rolls, she knows what it's like to struggle to put wagu beef on the table.
Own two vacation properties-ski area& beach. Use them both shoulder season- ski area one is rented summer and winter.
They generate a major vacations worth of $ every year. Used this flophouse

as a base to tour notherern Italy last year. No sportscar and driving gloves though. Having a vacation property business affords some modest tax benefits if you include time looking for new properties while on vacation.
From our real income we, like many nowadays, take a number of long weekends and one or two event specific trips say-Mardi Gras, Newport> Bermuda sailing race type things being the on the lavish end and BBQ in Memphis a less costly one.(discounting a 3 meal overnight at

Without doing the actual math I'd say 5% or a tad more.
It's kinda depressing that she spends more on vacation than I get as a salary. I live quite simply, but going on vacation and traveling more is the one thing that I wish I had extra money to do.
I spend about $800/year for vacations. Nearly all are spent staying with family with a few exceptions for camping.
50% more than I plan...
I have never spent more than $500 on a single vacation. I usually don't fly anywhere. I drive somewhere interesting, camp, hike, or canoe on my vacations. I have a great time. I live and work indoors most of the time, so I don't see the point of spending time indoors when I'm away from home.
I live on 35% save 40% and travel on 25%, probably not normal as I have almost no responsibilities and a very flexible boss, I only worked 8 months last year. 1 big trip and a bunch of long weekend trips each year.
I probably spend $1k-$2k a year on vacations. But how much you're going to spend depends on what you find fun. I prefer the cheap vacations. Not cheap just for the sake of saving money, but I find them more fun. I like camping better than hotels, cooking food over a fire better than restaurants, going hiking instead of hitting up the bars in town, etc. I would spend more if I needed too, but that amount of money is all I need for the 4 weeks I get at work.
With that being said, I have gone a number of bigger more expensive trip and have some other trips in mind for the near future. With those I always figure since I'm super cheap in all other aspects, I think it is fine for me to spend a lot. I figure the average joe probably eats out more than me. So just averaging $10 more a week on buying lunch/fast food/coffee shops, is $520 a year. That's a domestic plane ticket. I figure traveling adds value to my life. There are a lot of other things that I feel people spend money on that don't add value. I'd rather save my money for a new experience.
I guess after adding in the more expensive vacations I average probably closer to 10% of my income. And then save another 30% for retirement (so I can retire younger than the average person and travel more) and live off (and pay taxes) the remaining 60%. It helps that I'm single and don't have kids. That way I'm only paying for me on my vacations. Someday that might change.
