Treadmill advice

I am a big treadmill user. Early darkness and winters here in the NE make it necessary. I am even using it now during this heatwave. I really enjoy the treadmill. It's a great break from the roads and good for injury rehab or when you feel anything coming on.

I have a Pacemaster. It goes up to 11mph and 15% incline. Neither of which I have. It cost about $2,400, five or so years ago. There are probably newer and better models out now. It's a middle of the market treadmill, but perfect for me.

The Sole/Spirit treadmills are very nice for the price. My wife had one and it was a champ. It was as nice as my pricier True.

In a similar situation that last few years. I have a son that is 3.5 and another son that is 1. My wife and I have combined between 75-150 miles per week on our Live Strong LS10 treadmill. No issues at all so far. It's exactly what you describe. Can incline quite a bit, get up to 12mph, and is just a solid reliable platform with little frills. The fan on it sucks, but that's my only complaint.

Not sure what model I have since I'm out of town, but I got my treadmill on CraigsList. It goes up to 12mph, which is great if you need to do mile repeats or something. A lot of people, myself included, buy treadmills and then don't use them much. I'm in CA, so the weather's not often an issue, but I got one to keep myself disciplined when I worked late or it was pouring rain. That being said, I've used it about six times in the six months that I've had it. Still, I'm glad I have the option, especially since I figure I'll have kids in a few years.

You can find great deals on CL. I was browsing for a good month before I found the model and price I wanted. Plus, you can always negotiate. For those that are worried about buying used, remember that the seller probably hasn't used it much.

First. off, you made the right choice by considering a dreadmill. (Big achievement). Secondly, do your research by trying them out. I guarantee once you find that 'mill', you won't look back. Just giving my honest opinion. Best of luck.

Anyone use a pro-form one?

I am looking for one that would cost about $1500 or so. Anyone recommend any type?

I am looking for reliability mostly. I don't want the thing to break down all the time.

Precor 964I refurb. $5000+ when new. It will go to 4 flat mile pace and has incline and decline. I got very lucky and found one that only had 650 miles on it for 500 dollars.

I have had the Nordictrak Commercial 1500 for about 4 years now. Been a great machine. Up to 12 mph and incline to 10. Use it in winters when too cold and summers when too hot. Just had to replace a roller, and motor bearings were worn (some growling), so I replaced the motor too. Had to pay to get roller replaced, motor was still on warranty. Had a little over 2700 miles on it. I certainly would buy another. They come highly rated by the Treadmill Dr. and currently I believe they are on sale at Nordictrack for about $1200. Overall good specs with a long belt and 3.5hp motor. Replacement motor looks like it is 3.8hp. Good luck on your search.

In the market for a treadmill as well. My wife and I are having our 1st baby next month and it's time to get rid of the the expensive gym membership.

I run approx 25 miles a week and weigh 185lbs.

Any recommendations. I dont need anything fancy and really dont have a budget. I'd rather not spend too much, but also don't want a small/crappy treadmill.

I would highly reccommend a Landice. My wife and I purchase the L7 model back in 2005. We registered it wiith Landice and that entitles us to a lifetime warranty on all the parts. Well last month our Lanndice konked out on us. It turned out we needed new rollers and a new belt. Normally that would have cost $400. We paid $0. The only thing we did have to pay for was the labor and service call ($120). Landice makes great products and you cannot beat their warranty. Just make sure to register the treadmill with the company as soon as you get it otherwise the lifetime warranty does not apply. Good luck.

Looking to buy a treadmill in the Chicago area. Any advice on where to shop? Nervous to buy online without using. Also have a $1,200 budget, any advice on a 'good' treadmill for that price?

I've had a $300 Weslo Cadence 450 from Walmart for 10 years and it's still working great. It only goes to 8 percent but I jacked it up to 12 percent with no problem at all, and I've never had it to top speed since I do that outside. The main issue is that the belt is only 16 inches wide, not really a problem, but if the treadmill was wider there would be a bit more stability - however the treadmill would also be a lot heavier.

I'm considering getting a Horizon T101-3 for $650 from Amazon. It goes to a 10 percent grade and 10 mph, which enough speed for me for a treadmill. As it's top rated, I see no reason to get one that's more expensive, unless I wanted to run faster than 6:00 miles on it, which I don't.
