Too obvious: Easier to fluke into a medal in 1500 (Centro) or marathon (Meb) than in 5/10. Think. If Rupp medals in 5 or 10, it will be amazing. Very unlikely he can hang with what the Kenyans are going to unleash for 25 laps in the 10, though, and I just don't think he has the last 800 to roll with Lagat/Farah/Ethiopia*3 in the 5. |

If he wins a medal he wont be the greatest ever, but he will be getting himself close to being in that conversation. He's still young, building a resume. I say he needs a medal and a win at a major marathon. |

If Rupp wins a medal and eventually sets the AR in the 5000, I wouldn't scoff at anyone who called him the greatest US distance runner ever. It's worth noting that a few weeks ago Rupp beat the guy who won this year's USA 1500 championship. If Centro improves at anything close to the rate that Rupp did over his first few years out of college, he might claim the US GOAT title before Rupp finishes making his mark in the marathon. |

You don't see how Rupp can hang with what those Kenyans are going to throw down in the 10??? His 26:48 from late last year and a very good display over the trials doesn't give you any indication he can hang?? Geez!!! What sport are you watching? NASCAR? Rupp may not have that devastating kick on a fast pace, but he does have a pesky ability to hang in there with the leaders. He has a good shot at a medal in the 10 and the 5. So do about 5 other guys. Any given day he has a chance. |

I'd say it's difficult to compare eras, BUT that's part of what makes sports great. You can argue about Rupp (once his career is over) vs Salazar/Shorter/Rodgers etc.. Just like people will talk about Montana vs Manning vs Marino |
