hello i'm a rising senior at a very competitive high school in NC. I am a little bit confused as to where to go to school because i really want to run in college and my family doesn't have much money to send me out of state... for all those runners out there:my times are 11:09 3200m 5:06 1600m 18:42 5000m (i was injured in xc, i want to break 18:30 this year, maybe low 18:20s) here are my stats: 28 ACT composite (28 in english, 30 in math and reading, 25 in science :( 1890 sat (610 Verbal, 640 Math, 660 Writing) I have gotten all A's except two B's in AP bio last year, but I got all five on my exam's except a 3 in ap human geography. i took ap art history (A) sophomore year, junior year i took ap bio (B), ap gov (A), ap human geo (A), apes (A), spanish 4 hnrs (A), english 4 hnrs) i will be captain on xc and track, i am 5th in the state for the 3200m i am a member of national hnrs. society and spanish hnrs. society and VP of class council next year i am taking : ap chem, ap lit, ap spanish lang, ap calc bc, hnrs. us, free So what are some good schools to look at? I would love to go to UNC or Wake Forest. I wonder if they will give me $$ to run there though. I can afford UNC without much financial aid, just not Wake or Duke. What are some good out of state schools that are division one that are known to give a lot of money? I would go div. three if they had a good xc team and gave a lot of financial aid. please help me! i'm at a lost. there are so many schools, i just won't ever know PM me if you want my email or anything |

A few ideas: 1. Are you reading each day this summmer? Your scores and AP Bio ( which is a reading course) show you could improve the most in this area. 2. Have you considered looking at schools with need-based financial aid, rather than athletic scholarships? If you earn excellent grades this fall and raise your SAT scores, you may be able to compete for funding at NESCAC or UAA colleges. 3. Are you working with your counselor at school? And have you started visited colleges yet? |

This, I believe, is a recruiting violation |

How much do your parents make? Need based scholarships at some good academic schools such as the Ivys are pretty high. At Harvard I think if your parents make less than 90k you get a full ride. You might want to look into the Ivys and email their coaches. Your times are quite good compared to most incoming Ivy runners, so they will be interested. |

Columbus State University in Georgia. You would get a full ride. |

i agree with above comment about reading and trying to increase your SAT verbal and writing scores. perhaps buy the the princeton review prep book and focus on those subjects. you can probably increase them a bit, and then you could be looking at some academic/merit aid as well. don't go nuts, but it is worth some effort. |

It would help if you provided a form on contact! Your academics would likely get you a lot of financial aid at many Midwest state schools....and your stats would get you a lot of athletic aid as well. I know where I graduated from school, a 28 ACT and a 3.5 gets you full tuition. If you would be interested in more info there, leave me a message and I can give you a little more info. |

If you like the idea of staying in NC. Look at Davidson. It is small but it is Division 1 and is excellent academically. They have a program called the Davidson Trust in which they have done away with loans and all student aid is grant based. http://www3.davidson.edu/cms/x29226.xml Here is link to their current women's xc roster for comparison. http://www.davidsonwildcats.com/roster.aspx?path=wcross& Good luck with your decision. |

You certainly misunderstood. I am not familiar with the athletic scholarships and/or financial aid that those schools offer. Why? I do not coach there or at the D-1 level. Hope that clears up your "under the rock" comment. Don't be so quick to jump on people. Have a beautiful day. |

Look into East Carolina. Not many people think of them as a distance program because they were always so good in springs and 4x4 but the women's distance program has taken off. In 2012 the top women ran 800: 2:07.96 1500: 4:18.39 3000: 9:12.11 5000: 16:09.67 DMR: 11:24.51 Coaches information can be found here: http://www.ecupirates.com/sports/c-track/spec-rel/c-track-coaches.html |

2 totally different schools, both in different states, but just food for thought: William and Mary- had a little rough patch this year but should be coming back, has a great history. They get a lot of girls in with times similar to yours. Great degree to have. Clemson- really up and coming. They have improved steadily over the last few years. |
