Started to taper a bit for 7/21 twilighter 8k this week. After that race I guess people will start discussing the upcoming Olympics some. Key workouts were: 12 miles tuesday with 2 X 3 (3:00 recovery) at half-marathon pace 12 miles Friday with 2 X 4 (4:00 recovery) at marathon pace Tuesday was on treadmill but Friday on track in full sun at 4 pm in high 80's. I think my acclimatization program has been a success, but Saturday's race will tell. Have a great week, Dave |

Dave - thanks for kicking off the thread. It sounds like you're in great shape for the 8k this week, especially after that 12 miles on the track! Heat acclimation is under-rated, so I think you'll benefit from getting off the treadmill. I lost some miles this week due to work travel to and from the West Coast. My legs were feeling a little heavy due to jetlag, so I ended up actually taking two days off in a row. Yearwise, I'm still on track for about 2000 miles, which seems to work for me. It also looks like my Plan A option for Lisle of only running the 800m final on Saturday and the 1500m on Sunday will not be possible given the 17 M45 runners signed up for the 800m. That means there will be prelims, and I can't travel until Friday. Plan B is to run the 10k on Saturday morning, which I'm actually looking forward to. 25 laps of fun! |

Five days of running 45 minutes on treadmill. Three days of upper body free weight training. Feel like its making me a stronger runner. Three days of speed work. Really feel the different leg muscles from doing short sprints. Losing weight and getting stronger. |

Biked 100 miles this week in 4 days, with 40 yesterday. Had to take off a full week after my wreck on Thursday a week ago, but all healed up now. I had a follow up with my PT earlier this week. He said my achilles is making good progress. I go back again in 3 weeks any may be able to start running then if progress continues. Off to a day at Lake Tahoe. JM |

Typically pretty bucolic country up here on the Mendocino Sonoma County line...everybody groovy as the top two industries are wine and weed (and not necessarily in that order). Am out there plodding along this morning when an oversized behemoth SUV going 81 miles an hour rushes up from behind, lays on the horn and buzzes past within a whisker of my my epidermis. I couldn't possibly have flipped him off any faster or more emphatically and instead of being scared was mighty POed. That was an hour and ten minutes into a 1:40 "run"...the amped up adrenaline along with a side of piss and vinegar easily got me through that final half hour. I spent the final :30 visualizing all kinds of Clint Eastwood-like retribution and even had enough at the finish to pop off 3 extra push ups...seriously. And so goes my first day of Fall marathon training...you? MF |

Spent the week traveling to Boston to look at colleges with my son. All easy running but it was a fun ay to tour the various campuses. Then flew to Montreal and spent the next few days running all over the mountain in the middle of town; Mt Royal. So, lots of easy miles, no workouts, but a lot of fun. And MF, there is no 'Fall marathon' for a guy like me. But keep us posted on yours! |

Spent a week in Switzerland - the running was spectacular but very very steep. When I got back to the east coast I went for a 10 miler in the dewpoint 73 weather...then weighed myself. I had gone from 138 to 131 in a week of vacation and a long hot run. Anyway, I am getting worried about my summer season - I am not running well and have just 7 weeks before my goal race. I hope I can pull it together. And gain a few pounds. |

Just got home from spending almost all day at the USCAA National Championship meet. What a fun day! I ran 2 relays and our team set a national record in one of them...the 4x100. Smashed the old division III record by over 3 seconds and were only 4 hundredths off the div I national record. Nice tune up for the national meet in Lisle. I am now sunburnt and sore. Have a great week ahead! Good luck to all racers. |

100 for the week, got back into workouts for the first time in a month, and had a very strong week. Tuesday, I did 1.25M of 2 minutes hard (roughly 5:45 pace), 30 seconds easy at the end of my second morning run on a trail to get my legs going again after weeks of slogging. Thursday, I did a track tempo in 21:53 for 4M, just ahead of goal pace. Saturday, I ran 15M with the middle 9M at 6:06 pace and was between 5:40 and 5:50 for the last 5M. Today, the pace in the swamp was pretty decent. All this with low temps in the high 70s, highs in the 90s and high humidity. I'd like to get in a race soon but there's not much around here until September. |

Nice to see you're still at it Jonesy. Same here. Still chasing the dream of getting faster in the 1500m. I raced the mile in portland a month ago and managed a 4:33. 1500m time is still being lowered too. I'll be 41 in a week. Just think... it was because of that crazy Eddylee thread that I caught the fever. |

Skinn, I have fond memories of running up Mont Royale (?) in Montreal. I was running with a close friend and my husband and we could see the giant cross all the way across town, so we decided to head there for our run. I am not sure from which side we approached but we zig zagged back and forth as the road switchbacked up and up to the top -- and we were completely flabbergasted that the top, which was marked by the cross, seemed to be a completely flat park - there was no sign of the steep incline we'd run. We turned around and ran back down (and down and down) -- and to this day, we're still a bit puzzled. We called it the "Escher" run. |

My running is plugging along, although I've been haphazard about workouts - mostly just doing a variation of whatever my daughter is doing for hers, and doing them at the location of wherever my son's practices are. I need to bump my mileage some as I'm stuck at 63. I ran a trail race on Saturday (after a week of training where it seemed like every run was uphill) and ended up with a surprise 2nd place finish overall and the masters win (something I've never done in the 4 years running this year). My stomach was upset the whole race and wasn't helped by pushing so hard and my legs are kind of beat. Still I was very pleased. My daughter ran it too - as a tempo effort workout - and she won her AG! She looked great as she finished (she was in the wave after mine), which made me really happy. |

4:33? Quite solid and particularly at 41. I haven't touched anything decent at mile since a 4:42 in VT in 2009, but I'm training with some fast young guys and will try to get back down under 4:40 in the mile next spring. |
