Correct. Go out at 6:30 miles for the first six or so. Only ratchet it down after getting to 10k.
It sounds like you have no long runs at all, no tempos, and generally speaking haven't trained for a race longer than 18 minutes. That's fine, but be realistic about how your body will react when you're basically in no-man's land running hard for over an hour.
In their first half, most people with your speed but lack of base will go through 5k near what should be their 10k pace, then feel the world close in around them by 15k. Don't be most people.
