At Top 10 world universities like Cal, USC, UCLA, Cal Tech, etc. you have to have world level accomplishments comparable to your peers on campus to keep your gig. Professors have to start companies like California Microwave, Varian, Google, Sun Microsystems, etc. or get awarded huge U.S. Government Lab contracts, publish earth shattering breakthoughs, invent enabling technology like Internet (UCLA & Rand Corp), and have students publish innovative research and get invites to international Conferences. Athletics coaches have to win NCAA championships, win Olympic Medals and win IAAF WC medals. If you did o.k. but don't measure up to the rest of the faculty then you are allowed to leave. Lannana was allowed to resign before and now Floreal has been allowed the same courtesy. |
