Daniel Lincoln coaching Alistair Cragg 7/7/2012 3:29PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
According to an irish newspaper, Cragg is now being coached by former Arkansas team mate and AR steeple holder Dan Lincoln following his departure from Mahon's group/

A friend sent me this link:

Odd move right before an OG- Lincoln, I assume, is mid-residency at this stage- Why not get a real coach?
Great tactic

It can't be any worse for him than Mammoth where he dropped out of 90% of his races. Is Smythe still wasting his time at Mammoth where he also drops out of most of his races as well?

They are good friends and Alistair clearly Lincoln is a smart guy, I think having a coach he has faith in will help his career.

You ever worked in an office where most people are single? The reason for the departure was more to do with a lack of trust in the coach. I am sure some other high profile athletes may provide some insight why they left the same coach

That is exactly my current work situation and the only people that mess around are the interns because eveyone else is smarter than that.

Daniel will have more time on his hands to coach and do platelet rich therapy on his Achilles as he finished his R-3 year at Legacy Health in Portland this year in Internal Medicine.

For a year old photo see this advertisement for Legacy's residency program.

Don't think so.

Ok, I buy that but still a bit of a nasty post about the named players at Mammoth of which Lincoln is obviously not one. I am sure every training camp has its drama in some form. Men, women, testosterone, hormones, ego's, nice mix. Must be like a three ring circus. Hope those coaches get paid well.
Clarify please.

What does his coaching have to do with that kind therapy on an Achilles? Is he done with his residency? Is he working some where? Is he back to training to race? I thought he was going back to Arkansas to practice medicine.

My initial thought was that maybe Lincoln is planning a return to racing and that they are just training together as opposed to Lincoln being in a coaching role

If true, it is nice to Dan still involved in the sport.

Nothing wrong with the coaching but no trust in the coach

Maybe Mohon has a complex and can’t watch young people have a life as it could be lonely as a traveling athlete, while he's raking the money off of them while its good, then dumping the ones that aren’t quite getting results off of his training methods (questionable with some athletes doing better after leaving), I think those past athletes should sue his ass for bad practice let alone the unprofessional side of people using athletes personal lives as a get out clause LOL HAHAHA.. Opening doors to thoughts. Fishing for the biters.. Love to hear from you all.......

Lets be honest here- if Mahon was 'cleaning house' so to speak there are plenty of places he could have started first.
Bauhs- going nowhere
Bizzarri- going nowhere since she joined the group but has potential
Smyth- has done damn all since joining the group
Deena- needs to retire
Jen Rhines- ditto Deena

You would think his Olympians would be safe from any cull- that means Cragg, Hastings & Uceny. Meb doesn' count as Mahon is not his main coach
Obviously there were other factors in this decision. Will be interesting to see how Lincoln fares in a coaching role. Bit of a waste of med school though unless hes putting it to other uses...

Well considering if Lincoln gets results with Cragg, which would be amazing in such short time, it doesn't put much in Mohon as being a coach as you could save loads by getting friends to train you. "And you could date even a family member" LOL, I believe some coaches are for real and some kind of get lucky on others expense "literally" mmmm seem like you Lincoln is not wasting Med school he just adding to his already great abilities. And as for the cuts I believe that athletes are not part of your corporate ideology, you don’t make cuts as those cuts represent athlete’s lives and earning abilities and sometimes those are shoe string budgets just because the coach is going wrong somewhere. It should be given as an option as the athlete is really the coaches’ client which in turn makes him look good if he gets it right, just seems like his group has issues and most athletes should be nervous in going to do business with someone that can cut you. LOL . I also think that a coach shouldn’t have to coach according to brand what a load of bull. Anyway to eclipse all that good luck to Cragg and Lincoln and all the other athletes at the Olympics, the coaches and disappointment are byproducts to your success and hard work and may they be a great achievements win or not.
Get a life!!!

Everyone hated on Seneca Lassiter for pacing a foreign training partner, in a meaningless race. So be consistent here, w/o excuses (i.e. the ONLY coaching job an olympian & record-holder can supposedly get is helping a foreign athlete). Hate on Lincoln for truly betraying on a scale way above Lassiter's action. Let me guess- It would've been 'better' if Lassiter did everything to help that athlete day-day, long-term. And if Lincoln were to quit and instead pace Cragg in a race, THEN that'd cross the line.

-What a stupid thought,we are a land of imagrants which gives us no real way to exclude someone helping a foreign athlete thats living in our country, contributing to our taxes blahh blahh blahh.
- Lincoln is a bigger person to take on the challange which is beneficial to the sport. His behaviour is what makes the USA better, and your stupid ideas is whats dragging our country down.
- P.S. if it weren't for these foreign athletes too there would no NCAA to improve our athletes that cant make the grade, therefore no american would get scholarship for T&F duhh!!

Well this probably spells it out

"I was forced to make life changes back in May. And having no coach and no road leading towards these Olympics, I found myself in a rough place feeling alone and directionless. But by looking around I was offered helping hands from great people with amazing hearts."

I went to high school with Lincoln in the late 90s. We ate lunch together most days one school year. Then, about 6 years later, I was shocked to turn on the TV and see him running the steeple in the '04 Athens Olympics!
