If talk of Vin becoming a full-time admin guy bears out and Robert Johnson -- a sprint coach -- becomes the head track coach, who becomes the new head xc/distance coach? Are Andy & Marissa (sp?) Powell ready to move up? Or, is a big-name coach more likely? Any rumors about this matter heard at the Trials? XC starts in 2 months, so not much time to reorganize the staff. They definitely should hire RoJo away from Cornell. Get two Robert Johnsons on the staff--mess with people's heads a little. [As I understand it, Cornell has two (unrelated) Coach Johnsons anyway.] |

Well, it won't be a rival PSC-12 coach, although he was sought after. That fact alone doean't bode well for Powell. |

I wouldn't be surprised if Vin is still the head coach for XC this fall. But it's not like he was actually doing the day-to-day coaching to begin with. |

Actually, Oregon has a distance coach. His name is Andy Powell. Vin may write workouts and show up for things periodically but Powell does the actual logistical day to day stuff. |

I heard it will be an Asian guy named Andy. I don't his last name but he coached Shannon Rowbury in San Francisco. |

Actually Oregon does have a men's head coach for distances. His name is Andy Powell and he has been in this position for several years. His wife, Maurica Powell was the women's distance coach until she resigned upon the birth of their second child a couple years ago. At that time, Jenni Ashcroft assumed the women's distance position. Unless he is out of town, Vin normally oversees both the women and men's distance coaching. He is an active participant in the coaching for both and is present for most workouts. We can assume that the changes coming go beyond Robert Johnson's elevation and the removal of Robert Weir for the throws program. Possibilities include bringing in a new throws coach and even making some changes in the women's distance coaching arrangement. The answers will come from the AD in a few days. |

WKat other Pac 12 coach would Oregon be interested in? Stanford's distance coach has not done any miracles with the talent that he has had. Colorado's coach (Wetmore) is highly respected, but would not leave the mountains for Eugene. Washington's coach (Metcalf) has recruited well, but his coaching has left far too much to desire with marginal succes and injured athletes. Really there are no others....the suggestion that Oregon has gone after a Pac 12 coach is absurd. |

Look to see Maurica Powell back in the coaching ranks for the Ducks with her husband as she resumes training the women as Johnson moves into role as head coach and Vin becomes the Guru of Tracktown. |

The Director of Track and Field likely to be named is Olympic Champion Allen Johnson who is coaching at Air Force and is a graduate of UNC. UO also talked with double hurdles Olympian Yvonne Scott the Director of Track and Field at UNLV and graduate of CU. |

I've never claimed any relationship with any of the current Oregon staff. Are you drunk when you post this tripe? |

It might be Brad Hudson. ??? |

You are right I always thought that "A Duck" might be Brad as well. Someone else thought it was Martin Smith, but his ethical education at Bridgewater would preclude his use of an anonymous name on public message boards. |
