Wake Up Letsrun! - Stop sleeping on the women’s 200m 6/30/2012 7:09PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
The women’s 200m is by far the most competitive event at the USOT and no one is taking about it.

Some perspectives:
o The USA has 7 of the top 10 time in the world this year.

o Sub-23 is world class elite, it took a sub-23 just to make it out of the preliminary round.

o 4 of the top-10 times in the world were run the semifinals.

o All of the USOT 200m performances have been run in less than ideal sprinting conditions.

o The finals will feature a WC 200m gold medalist, WC 100m gold medalist, WC 400m gold medalist, the NCAA 200m champ and record holder and the athlete with the best 200m time in the world.

o For the first time Allyson Felix goes into a national championship as arguably not the favorite.

This race is going to be epic!

Agreed. Jeter moves up to take on SRR while Felix fights them both (plus Tarmoh!) off.

Mega.

We will update the reaction times and then the splits for each 20m as they progress.

then again madison seems to be a bit of a scrappy fighter. she just may pull the surprise and get the 3rd spot.

40 meters in, it's an 8-way tie, too close to call at this point but Felix looks relaxed.

100 meters in. There is a slight gap of about 2-3 meters between the leaders and the pretenders. The last 100 meters is where the women separate themselves from the girls. The leaders are on meet record pace.

Sprints are incredibly boring. The biggest reason people don't appreciate track is because media forces sprints on everyone (they back for nice clips and allow NBC/ESPN to show a ton of commercials between short races) even though no one really enjoys watching sprints.

150 meters. Allyson Felix is really throwing it down now. She ran a gutsy 3rd 50 meters and has created an insurmountable gap. Jeter, Richard-Ross, and Duncan are giving chase but it appears they have started their kicks too late.

Allyson Felix in 21.68, the 3rd fastest time in history; perhaps now this event will get some love on this message board.
