Updated: Gabriele Anderson has been reinstated into the final Gabriele Anderson, the cancer survivor, who finished second in heat 2 of the women's 1500m semifinal has been DQd. I heard this second hand at a bar but supposedly there was some contact with a lap to go. Anderson was bumped into Amy Mortimer and a protest was filed resulting in the Anderson DQ. Anderson will be appealing the DQ in the morning. As a result of the DQ, Alice Schmidt (not Amy Mortimer) who did not originally make the final has been added to the final as that moved Schmidt up to the 5th automatic qualifying spot. The final is not until Sunday. That's a long ways out to DQ someone based on "contact." Is the replay available? |

When your source is "I heard this in a bar" you might want to wait to post until you have some actual proof. The start list hasn't changed and most likely you are wrong and starting controversy over some drunken rumor your heard from someone trying to pretend they are more important than they really are. |

as soon as they crossed the line and headed into the last lap, anderson was boxed inside with mortimer right next to her outside. anderson made an aggressive and blatant attempt with her right arm to shove mortimer out wide in order to create a space to move out and around the runner ahead of her and mortimer at her side. there was definite pushing by anderson, but mortimer stood her ground and pushed back, maintaining her rightful position. anderson relented and took another avenue to the inside, which was eventually successful. but the contact did knock mortimer off her stride a bit and impeded her movement for a few seconds, which did alter her race intentions which she was attempting to carry out at a very critical time. anderson had absolutely no lane to get around mortimer, and she was trying to shove her to the side. she wasn't trying to squeeze through or feather her way through a tight spot, it was about a second of hand-to-hand combat and anderson was clearly in the wrong. mortimer got knocked off her stride and had to pull her attention away from the race momentarily. that, no doubt, had a negative impact on her finishing drive. maybe not a great impact, but it had significance. per rule, anderson deserves the DQ, and has no grounds for overturning it. |

That contact was nothing and a regular part of racing.... There is no way that had any influence in the slightest on why she did not make the final. She's a veteran and has raced in Europe many times so I can't believe that she thought that was worthy of a protest. |

It seems pretty clear to me, but I have a reading comprehension above 7th grade. Wejo first heard the rumor in a bar and took the initiative to look up the results before posting. He posted the original and updated results, directly from the USATF site, with the latter verifying the rumor he heard.

Uceny complained about Anderson trying to push her way between her and Mackey in the prelim round. Anderson admitted this on a video interview too. Sounds like she got even more aggressive in round 2. |

I'm betting an official gave weldon a heads up but asked not to be quoted before the announcement was official . I'll not go into "overhearing" things like The Paris Rejection sending NS into the arms of a local track groupie. |

Seems like this has happened before, see 2:30 here: http://www.flotrack.org/coverage/238774-Occidental-Oxy-High-Performance-Meet-2011/video/491434-W-1500-F02-Championship-Follett-continues-to-roll-Oxy-High-Performance-2011 |

The girl is a 2 time cancer survivor! Like Lance, I think you gotta give her a pass on this one! I'm just sayin' |

I am surprised as the contact didn't appear to be anything we don't see in bunched races routinely. Maybe Uceny pointing it out did alert officials as suggested above. Could someone explain why Mortimer is also not allowed to advance given she was the person affected by the foul? I understand why they'd give it to Schmidt, but why not both? |

Sadly the rules direct behaviour peramiters and are not designed to assist the injured party. |

Mortimer was in lane 2 on the straight and cut into lane 1 on Anderson on the curve. It was Anderson who was holding her position when Mortimer leaned on her. Still, no one was impeded, no one fell or was stepped on, no flag was raised, no one's stride was even altered. It was a competitive, physical race (as is the nature of 1500 semis) but all the runners had a fair shot and the best ones qualified. Anderson should be reinstated. |

Is the protest period over? Could we see a reversal? |

Mortimer was not fouled. She had a clean run for the finish at all times but was just not fast enough. |
