Am I the only person surprised by this? He hasn't accomplished much since his Freshman year. Who is going to pay for him to underperform? Certainly not U of OK, since they didn't over his scholarship through the rest of his eligibility.

Is he Alan Webb 2.0?

You mean he's going to hold the AR in the mile in a few years?

The 1500 semis have a few Nike athletes that underperfomed more than he did.

Posts are usually taken more seriously when you at least show rudimentary knowledge of the subject. Unfortunately, you failed miserably. GF was not at univ of okla. Try again, but this time with a bit more enthusiasm and less undermining negativity.

Just ask Will Leer, Alan Webb, Dorian Ulrey, Kyle Miller, need I say more? German will get some kind of good deal. Even if he doesn't get signed by Nike it won't mean he'll have a bad career.

I'm thinking no one would benefit more than GF from being in a structured AlSal system. He is not a head case, he just needs special attention to his form and to potential stress reactions etc. I think Nike should ship him directly to Portland and give him 100K a year with record incentives and see what happens. It is clearly worth the risk.

Nike would love to have German Fernandez.

It would be great if he started running with Rupp and Salazar.

German will disappear for about a 14-month span and resurface with some life changing PR of 12:53 or so. By then he'll have a Nike elite contract, access to VIP areas and a residence at altitude. Coach will be Alberto Salazar or Jerry Schumacher.

His form? What would you do to his form? It's perfect.

German would have run faster than LV if he were running in a pro race, and Lukas never broke 14 in the 5K. Not to say he couldn't have..

German will disappear without a trace only to mysteriously reappear with a 64:00 half, thus qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Trials, where he will place 3rd in the Marathon in 2:09. Everyone writes him off for the Rio Olympics, but with Latin American soil under his feet, German takes off on his own and begins reeling off 4:39.6 miles like clockwork. The announcers expect him to fade, but he doesn't slow even a tick from his internal metronome. With two miles to go, German looks left, reaches down into his pocket. He pulls out a comb and ponderously drags it through his hair, shaking off a droplet of sweat. His pace continues exactly as it was, and German wins the Olympic Marathon in 2:02:13. Upon crossing the finish line, German's body erupts into flame as he spontaneously combusts. Some observers will swear they see a bird fly out of his ashes and into the distance, but that's impossible. Isn't it?
Just.....wow.

I read his post, frowning in disbelief. I looked at my dog. He licked his lips, and looked back at me. I slowly drew my hand across my forehead in perplexion. No, my GF was gone. Gone for good.
