So my wife, her sister, brother-in-law and I were sitting in Steelhead Brewery having dinner after the meet wrapped up tonight. Sitting at the table across from us was Curtis Beach, in his Duke jacket. We decided to pay for his dinner.

He came over to thank us and I told him that I thought what he did was one of the classiest things I've ever seen in competition. He seemed genuinely humbled and appreciative. I wished him good luck and that we looked forward to seeing him make the team in 2016.

He seemed like a really nice guy.

Cool.

--You just made him a professional ;-)

He does seem to be developing physically, still growing, so maybe he can make it in 4 years.

You should have picked up the tab for See, Leslie, and Olinger when you had the chance too!

Is "what he did" in regard to his absolute disrespect to the event, stage, and the sport?

I've met Curtis a couple of times and he is a really nice guy, so I won't rip on him too much, but what a travesty of a show.

Beach is a class act. You, on the other hand, are a classless blowhard.

Who comes to LRC to let everyone know that they bought someone dinner. No good act is selfless I suppose. You were thinking more about yourself than Beach.

Come on, it was a good story. We want to hear stuff like this, even if it sounds like bragging, it's interesting and still thoughtful of him.

At least he's not inventing stories of having a beer with Galen Rupp.
This got me

The OP met a guy who is somewhat of a celebrity within this niche sport, and did something nice for him. Why WOULDN'T a track fan think this was cool and want to talk about it?

And the crappy responses to this nice gesture are why good people have stopped coming to this message board. Well done, sir.

Yeah that's a nice gesture but it could actually be an Issue. When dealing with NCAA guys you might want to just shake their hand and tell them.

I would think the OP can tell the difference between funny trolls and serious responses.

I like this thread and I don't see a negative response on it. Most of the pseudo-negative ones are hilarious.
