There was alot of skeptical people when talking about ryan martin. I was in the same recruiting class as he was, UCSB, in 2007 and he had just started running his junior year of high school if im not mistaken (it may haave been his sophmore year). A lot of people wrote him off, questiong his ability to survive at a big time meets through the rounds, and given the fact that at the last 2 NCAA's he didnt seem to have to ability to make it through rounds. But he had ran an epic race at big west champs where he ran the second fastest time in college. I remeber him telling me and andrew plavjian when we all lived togethea that he would become an olympian. He is only twenty-three and he was so close to achieving that goal. So this thread is basically to discuss how rymar came through in the bigest race of his life and he ran beautifuly. So I think he deserves alot of credit for what he proved to us today. He is going to be contender and he will be a force to be reckoned with over the next 8-10 years. so feel free to give hiim some love for finishing 4th at the US oly trials. WE will be hearing his name alot more over the next several years. Thoughts?

He's been my favorite collegian in the 800 for the last two years.

I was really hoping he and Greer would make the team, so we could have some real young blood getting experience for the future.

Maybe they can both make some races in Europe.

He is really damned consistent. I think in four years he'll be like Solomon was today.
this is embarassing

As a former Gaucho alum, I am quite embarrassed by your mentally challenged attempts at spelling and grammar. Rest assured everyone, we are all not like this.

He definitely has a shot at making the team in 2016 and becoming one of the top three Americans every year in the event. It'll be interesting to see what he ends up doing post-collegiately for a training base. It could be a good idea for him to join Johnny Gray's group.

Might be a good idea to stick with Pete Dolan. That guy is one of the best 800m coaches in the US. Dolan gets consistantly better results than Gray.

I agree. Pete has been a very good coach to Ryan, but the facilities and resources around SB aren't very good. He needs to find a group that with a similar training program that Pete had him working with (lydiard). He needs a group that will have the resources that will keep him healthy and a few training partners.

You're not a current Gaucho alum?

Dolan has done a very good job with martin and a slew of other fast 800 guys at ucsb over the last few years. i think ryan will do well at OTC as well though. training with symmonds and mulder under a lydiard style training system + all the facilities he wants. i think thats the best choice for him
