Wow I feel bad for him. There were tears in his eyes!
So he petitions to get into the 5k.. gets last place in his heat.. then decides he isn't going to run the event he rightfully qualified for.. what a joke
He was a great sport in that interview. You could tell he was disappointed, but he was very cordial. The odds were stacked against him anyway - his wife is 40 weeks pregnant and could give birth at any moment. Anyone with kids knows how emotional that time is.
I'd bet he will reconsider that statement tonight/tomorrow and decide to run.
I don't understand how anyone can not like Webb
It seemed as though a great weight was lifted from his shoulders. That was the happiest I have ever seen him. It's like a movie or a novel, when you would expect the great competitor to be at his worst, he seems relieved all the pressure is now gone, and he can now get on with his life.
He seems very happy about the baby coming.
Genuinely happy.
He will not look at 2012 as a bad year. Believe me.
That's the most at-ease I think I've ever seen Webb in an interview.
Webb is a good dude, straight up.
why embarrass yourself right ? He's Brian Scalabrini of Track&Field this season....
If Webb makes the 2016 olympic team it would be the biggest comeback on American entire professional sports history.

And THAT is the most important point to make here. PRIORITIES Alan. Take the year off. Re-assess. BE happy most of all.
yeah dude, you're just a sour d!ck, you're also probably a 19 year old that did get to appreciate Webb 7 years ago... Webb is a legend, period. One of the greatest ever. It was legitimately sad not to see him move on to the finals. He's a good guy, and at one time, the only threat we had to win a medal in distance running. I hope takes some time off, and comes back if and when ever he wants to... sad day
Alan is a great runner. i don't see any need to kick him while he's down. he tried to make a comeback for the trials, but - as he said in his interview - this just hasn't been his year. he couldn't put it together. he is, in fact, human.
but it's so frustrating that people bash him. Too much damn negativity! It's sad that the majority of people hoped that he would fail. It just really sucks that people would rather Alan do poorly, rather than other runners do better.
i'm sad to see that it just didn't come together for him. hero, inspiration, legend. either would suffice. it's impossible to say that he didn't raise the bar for american mid distance running. thanks for the memories alan, and hope this isn't the end.
We all suck. Work on the "good dude" part of things and you'll be alright.
Webb, that is the most at ease I've ever seen you. If running isn't making you happy, then don't do it, man. You looked so relieved and unburdened saying you weren't doing the 1500. Be happy, Alan.
