What was the point?
Who?
Pretty pointless, borderline immature. Had Rupp done this, LRC would have exploded.
He looked quite good though closing off 14:00 pace.

+1
I think he was making more of a statement. He pushed Rupp to the line and Rupp seemed PISSED. I think it was his way of saying "I can close of a fast pace, do not count me out"
would you have preferred he checked up so as to not offend the local hero?
Maybe the competitive juices as Rupp was pushing the last 100.
They both just needed to cruise in.
It was a pointless move clearly meant to ruffle Rupp's feathers. Rupp will swat him like an annoying fly in the final.
Yup. Extremely childish of him. Rupp could destroy him at will, but DUMBalough decides to pull a bushleague move like that.
Confidence boost after a couple shitty 1500s in the last 2 months.
You're a bunch of pussies. He's competitive and wants to win.
The second heat was the way a close finish should end. Lagat and Lomong with a handshake and not trying to outkick each other. Silly white boys.
Didn't see Lagat or Lomong lean as they crossed the line together - also separated by .02s like the first heat.
Bubbling animosity between Alberto's/Jerry's boys comes to the surface.
If you want to be admired like Michael Stember you have to race like Michael Stember.

I thought the same thing. He made a point that you don't just 'get' to win your heat and if the last 50 meters matter, you don't have it guaranteed.
I liked it, it got under his skin. Wariner got a huge thread about 'sportsmanship' when he was distraught about his lifelong dreams finally fading through his fingers.
Rupp doesn't win his heat and storms off ignoring his fellow athletes' high fives as well as those of the workers. And the guy that beat him is the classless one?
His body is ready to race, his mind is fragile. Must be the pollen count.
Uncle 'Berto and Jerry should organize a fight in the mud to determine who's the better coach in the business.
Bumbalough best enjoy his 15 minutes. He won't be a factor in the final.
