Way to go!
Way to go!
And Detmer, too! Loved it.
Pure class by the both of them.
This is what makes the sport great.
Curtis Beach is a CLASS ACT!!!
Totally waiting around for Eaton!
AWESOME!
How on earth do you fan boys view this as "cool?" Do you think Eaton would have slowed and let another athlete beat him in ANY circumstance???
NO. That is why Beach will never get to Eatons level. I guarantee you Clay or Hardee would have been fighting all the way through to beat Eaton. Slowing down and letting Eaton win did absolutely nothing for Beach except reenforce the fact that Eaton is heads above him.
Why Curtis, why??
The move looked pretty classy, but the first question i asked when i saw him slowing down like that was "Well, couldn't you cheer Eaton on just as much from the finish line"?
He had fouled out of the Jav and his meet was over- good move.
I agree. I think it was a good gesture.. let the guy setting the world record cross the line first. Beach will make the team in 2016.
Earth to Troll! Get a life! Wow, what a loser
To be honest, I didn't get the point of doing that.
8 years from now when Eaton is over the hill and out of contention I can easily see him doing something like what Beach did.

you are a f'ing loser.
to answer your first question, without a doubt. do you think that eaton runs completely all out in every 1500 when he already has the competition won? not.
to your second point, if you think that THE reason why beach won't get to the WR level is because he pulled to the side and let eaton win the 1500 today, then you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about and should be banned from this boards. like that single act has even a scintilla of an impact on how good beach can become in the next 8 years.
to your "guarantee," who cares what you think? you clearly don't have a clue.
When you picture a world record being set on the track, you picture the guy setting the world record winning. The decathlon is odd in that the winner, or world record setter, can be way back when winning. I remember the first time I saw the video of Jenner in Montreal when i was a kid and how anticlimactic it was seeing him finish in the middle of the pack celebrating. With Beach's immensely classy gesture, the crowd got to see, and all future videos will show, the winner and world record holder finishing his record by crossing in first. Awesome move and very good for the sport.
THAT WAS AN AWESOME MOVE. BEACH is the the man!! WOW, classy!!
It was a good move he couldnt have gained anything from beating him
but how can you NOT like eaton...stud and a HUGE class move by Beach and the other dude.
awesome stuff

I agree with you. How exactly is intentionally slowing down to let another runner beat him classy? Beach should go as hard as he could every time he steps onto the track. If I were him, I would have gone after the decathlon 1500m record which he was close to at last year's NCAA meet.
Does anyone think that Steve Prefontaine would have ever given up in a race like Beach did today?

+1. That was a great moment.
The only thing left to be decided was whether Eaton would get the WR. The places had already been decided, the Olympic spots had already been decided. Under those circumstances, Beach did the right thing. Those of you don't get it are either idiots or soulless or both. Probably both.
