Could be very exciting. |

Why would anyone who could run sub-27 do it tonight? |

I would be very surprised if it much lower than 27:20. |

I don't envision anything faster than 27:15 or so. Reason being that no one's going to set a blistering pace over the first mile. I can see Rupp and Ritz picking it up dramatically after that, however. |

Nonsense. Rupp will diddle around for days. He will not need to pick things up till the final 800. Hell, he could probably wait till the last lap and still cruise to the win. He will want to be as fresh as possible for the 5k. That will be a scary race. As for tonight, I'll be surprised if it's sub 27:30. If it is, it won't be my much. Ritz is desperately trying to make the games in SOMETHING. Rupp is simply trying to not embarrass himself. |

Rupp will run 14:00-13:17 for an easy 27:17 winning time. |

So, you're saying no chance of sub 27? |
| My gf has a whooty! |

I predict 27:40 ONLY because Ritz needs the A. If he didn't I'd say 28:xx. No of the contenders other than Ritz wants a fast pace and he only wants the A so look for it to be just under. Anything below 27:30 would be shocking. |

No chance of sub-27. Only one has ever done it and it wasn't on US soil in a trials-type race. I doubt Ritz will let them dawdle through an opening 14:00 though. I can envision Rupp and Ritz somewhat working together to keep the pace honest. Something like a 13:45-13:40 or slightly faster second 5k wouldn't surprise me. |

Ritz will never cut in that close. Look for something in the low 27:30s.

*** if more than one other runner is still close. Otherwise, it probably will be around 27:30-40ish. |

basically agree Sagarin, but you are forgetting about Solinsky. Only one American has done it on American soil. |

I'm not so sure. There very well may be a sleeper that goes out on a kamikaze mission to try and steal the race. |
| Sagarin |
| ||
Yes, but who's capable of holding it all the way? It would work to Ritz's advantage. Gonchar, yes, I accidentally omitted Solinsky's 26:59. |

People who go out kamikaze missions generally end up in the same condition as all the other people who went on kamikaze missions: not on the olympic team. |
