Someone get Jon Little on the phone! You know they won't
keep Dunbar out of the meet so looks like they will at least take 25!

I predict the US Olympic 5k team will be:

Alan Webb, Lopez Lamong, Mo Trafeh

How is Chaplin still the man in charge at USATF!? He's the damn Vladimir Putin of track and field. Presidents and CEO's come and go but you can rely on Chaplin's arrogant ass making the final decisions that hurt any athletes not wearing the swoosh. It boggles my mind that he is still pulling the strings.

The olympic trials record is 13:22.8 and is 40 years old. Don't count on it being run in the 13:teens

Hassan Mead was the guy who got screwed out of the 5k final 4 years ago because Rupp decided to just run the prelim as a workout, sprint for the finish, flash the "O," and not run the final. If he gets screwed over because of more Nike shenanigans...I don't even know what to say.

Webb will have to run the Olympic A standard at the trials. Do you really see that happening?

Having to be "let in" like this will put more pressure on Webb. We know how he thrives on this!

I have a short memory.

I want to see Alan in the race, but this stuff is a slippery, slippery slope. USATF just needs to be more transparent in cases like this. Get a board and put it to a visible vote, put more clauses in so that they can say what it falls under, etc etc. Too many people will have good reason to be pissed. They should have learned from 2008 frankly.

Trials record or US champs record, same race really and the US champs have been run in under 13:20. There's no different tactics for qualifying for the olympics or worlds. The trials are just only run every 4 years. There are lots of fast guys now, so it's not as unlikely to go that fast anymore. If more than 3 guys have the A standard, the top guys won't be going extremely slowly leaving it to a kick with others who have the A standard but are not as quick pr wise. If less than 3 guys have the A standard, then there is a strong reason to want the race to go slowly which is what has happened in the past. It wasn't long ago we had 1-2 guys with the A standard usually.

I hope Alan Webb gets his as$ kicked at the trials so that the USATF realizes the mistake they did, and if you don't like my answer then FUC$K you!

Umm... Exactly which of those guys is "technically more qualified" than 3:46 and 27:3x?

Dunbar is going to run the 5k at trials? This would be really great if he does. Hoping he could atleast finish 5th or 6th which would be great. I know if he stays healthy and continues to improve then he should have no problem making the team in 2016.

It's amazing the idiocy of everyone saying that the guys in the 13:30's should have run the A standard for the trials if they wanted to be guaranteed a spot. Why? Because Webb should have run the A standard if he wanted to be guaranteed a spot!

The USATF needs to stick to its qualifying guidelines and give the guys with the best time the chance to compete.

I can't believe the number of people up in arms over the fact that one 13:36 plus guy is not going to get a chance to do what, chase at the back of the pack in Monday's qualifying round?

Alan will not do that, he is in a different class, and has everything in the world to prove by making the team despite the odds and criticism.

Doesn't that intrigue you more than one more college kid on the curve as the leaders are finishing?

clearly alan is a stud and I want him in the race just because I want to root for him. i'm just pointing out that the USATF is putting themselves in a horrible position by pulling this crap. "technically" everyone on that list that I pasted is more qualified by the standards that they've set for these trials. if the USATF wants to throw guys in that they think should be in the race they need to be more transparent about the process or there are going to be rightfully pissed off people. hell, just let qualifying marks from 18 months out count and then everyone has more options if they want to let this stuff happen... whatever. hassan mead's lifetime PR would seed him 11th. that is pretty damn qualified. why can't he get in then?

There would be riots if the Patriots missed the playoffs and Goodell decided to add them in simply because they're former Super Bowl champs.

There would be riots if Arsenal set themselves up for relegation from the premier league but were saved by the league CEO at the last second because they haven't been relegated in almost a century.

Let's go with another individual sport - swimming - they don't even have such a system. if you get the standard you're in. You can claim they're trying to hit a certain field size, but come on...
