I'm a runner in high school and absolutely love running. My parents try to restrict how much I run and its really getting annoying. Whats wrong with just going outside and running for a really long time?

It's a lot better than watching TV for two hours a day, which a lot of people do. At least it's healthy, and a form of pursuing excellence.
Try explaining to them that it's what you choose to do with your leisure time. As long as they understand that you are choosing to run instead of watching more TV or spending that time with friends, so it is displacing those things instead of studying and chores, then they will probably be okay with it.
Yea I totally agree. It's not like I'm wasting valuable time, if I wasn't running I'd probably just be on the computer or doing something random.
90+ min easy runs are the best way to develop more mitochondria
Buy this book, read it, then share it with your parents. They'll get behind you.
Be careful and build up to it. 2 hours a day is a lot, especially in high school. You don't wanna spend your summer doing 2 hours a day on the elliptical..
Nothing wrong with it at all.
when doing something like this you risk a couple of things. Injury and overtraining/fatigue. It's best to maybe do a couple doubles. I can't see how this would really benefit any athlete though just running 2 hours a day. If that is what you like though then do whatever.
I doubt they would have an issue with you playing tennis for two hours a day. Unless they have some concerns about your health then they have no point.

Because 2 hr runs are the best way to better your slow twitch muscles. There is no substitute. Doubles adding up to 2 hrs don't work. Unless those doubles are separated by about 1 minute of rest.
If you love to run, go for it! There's nothing at all wrong with runnning two hours a day if you are enjoying it.
80 year old Ed Whitlock runs 3 hours a day.......in a cemetery and he seems to be doing okay.

It might not be the optimal way to train but if you are just doing it because that is what you love to do and not because you are preparing for a race then there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Don't let people bring you down. You have a passion that is extremely healthy and that is a great thing.
