OKC THUNDER ARE A GREAT TEAM, BUT THEY DO NOT REPRESENT OKLAHOMA 6/20/2012 2:32PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
The Oklahoma City Thunder have had a fantastic season. They are a talented group of kids who have put Oklahoma City's name in the national, and global spotlight. They have contributed to the economy of Downtown Oklahoma City, and given some.......just some.......Oklahomans a mindset of pride for their city. The Okc Thunder may be the greatest thing to ever happen to Oklahoma. However, do not let a basketball team full of foreigners (non-oklahomans and non-americans) convince you that Oklahoma is good place to live.

Oklahoma is, statistically, the most conservative state in the Nation. In the 2008 election, not a single Oklahoma county voted for Barack Obama. Now, i'm sure that may seem good if you are a right-winger, but allow me to continue.

Everything in Oklahoma is half-strength. The people, the law, the media, the clubs, the drinks, the entertainment, the entire atmosphere of the state is extremely limited and weak, due to it's tradional political climate and capitol full of politicans that are afraid of change. They are afraid of progression.

There is no 6 point beer in Oklahoma. Its all half strength. There is no full nude bars in Oklahoma, only half nudes. Oklahoma was the LAST STATE to legalize tattooing. Oklahoma does not sell liquor in any type of grocery store of convenient store like other states. You must go to a special store to buy it, and the liquor laws in Oklahoma are so extreme, that it's almost impossible to hide inside your own home and drink. It currently has to be inside a bar or inside your own home. Oklahoma is attempting to ban tobacco and cigarrettes entirely.

Oklahomas democratic party has invested millions and millions of dollars into a American Indian Cultural Center, 3 miles from Downtown, which is now half built and recently informed to the public that it may never be completed, due to Oklahomas legislature pouring all of its money into the Highway Patrol. Oklahoma has never and will never want any relationship at all with the minorities that live there, including the tribes. Oklahoma is not known for its diversity or acceptance. Its known for its bigotry and profileration. The only "brothas" in Oklahoma are the ones that play for the Okc Thunder. They are also the only Brothas that Oklahoma respects. And the irony of all this, you ask? These Brothas came from Texas (with exception to Ibaka and Sefolosha).

Although there are 2 states that statistically score worse on highschool tests (mississippi and louisianna), dont let that fool you. The scores and Department of Education have been continuously found as corrupt and dishonest about the performance of youth in this state. Funding is put into the wrong places, and every child is LEFT BEHIND due to pushing them through the system and seeking a graduation number, not actual knowledge gained while in the institution.

I am a former Tulsa citizen who now lives in Texas due to Oklahomas outrageously poor political climate and lack of determination to even keep up with other states. Although Oklahoma has always been behind the other states in every single aspect of life, since the 1980s, its like every other state "took off" and Oklahoma just got left behind again. In their own zone and being blissfully unaware of how behind they really are in the advancement of a society. I am a Texas citizen now, and could easily tell a world of difference from the second I crossed the state-line into Texas. While my new state is a GLOBAL MODEL for economics, freedom, the legal system (and death penalty), I am much ashamed of the fact that I ever inhabited Oklahoma, the state who has nothing going for it but a basketball team and being #1 in the Nation is female inmates, divorce rates, and loratab addiction.

Enjoy Oklahomas name in the spotlight while it lasts, as everything "good" about this state has come from elsewhere. Ex-new orleans hornets, Seattle SuperSonics, and any decent athlete at the collegiate or professional level. It is virtually impossible to "love" a basketball team without loving the city they are from, because a team is intended to be a representation of that area. Nothing could be further from the truth regarding the Thunder. I am only one of thousands and thousands of original Oklahomans who have moved elsewhere since the Thunder came to be, due to Oklahomas inevitable socio-political decline.

There is 1 word for the future of the Okc Thunder..........Satisfactory.

There is only 1 word for the future of Oklahoma and its citizens prosperity...........Hopeless.

Interesting.

I googled Oklahoma and all I got were thousands of images and links about the Okc Bombing and the Okc Thunder.

I guess that's all your state will ever be recognized for.
Sorry Bro.

I hear you. I felt the sameway when Oklahoma State won the national championships in XC. Nothin Oklahoma about that XC team. And as far as the Thunder goes, I bet Durant doesn't own a single cowboy hat, and I'm sure Westbrook can't line dance!

Or as we refer to it; Uglyhoma. I still think of the team as the Supersonics.

That was half gibberish. You may be making your point about Oklahomans in a way you didn't intend.

Anyway, Texas is the same as Oklahoma except for size and Indian casinos, so don't be so smug.

0/10.

Texas is a completely different country. Many of it laws are not only different than Oklahoma's, but OPPOSITE OF THEM. Also just researched the demographics and found that Texas and Cali lead the Nation in Hispanic-Mjority communities, and Oklahoma is the only state who does not have a single town, city, or census designated place with a Latin majority. Even Kansas has more minorities and Liberals than Oklahoma.

Dude, there are two types of women in Oklahoma. The fat tattooed kind the OP would be proud to date (his sister probably). Then there is the uber hot types like Carrie Underwood, Kristin Chenoweth, the Sooner cheerleaders, the OSU cheerleaders and plenty of small town girls you'll never hear of, but there is no middle ground. Either hot or completely not.

I guess he forgot that half the OU team comes from Texas and the other half from around the nation. That doesn't represent Oklahoma too well. He should be used to needing outsiders to prop up his state.

Bull.

Mustang Brewing:

Pawnee Pale

Limited release for Spring. Do you like a hoppy ending? A tantalizing blend of German Perle and US Pacific Northwest hops give Pawnee Pale a moderate, citrus, hop quality. American, British, and caramel malts provide a rich maltiness not found in most pale ales. At 6% ABV and 42 IBU’s, Pawnee Pale is distinctly hopped, yet still carries that session beer quality you have come to expect from Mustang. Available in bottles and kegs for a limited time.

Professional athletes are mercenaries and they go where they get paid to go. Unless they just happen to be from the area, the Miami Heat players have nothing to do with Miami, the Yankee players have nothing to do with New York, etc.

LeBron "represents" Ohio, not Miami, even tho they hate him in Cleveland now.

Do you really think the Minnesota Vikings reflect the racial make-up of Minnesota?

Definitely gibberish. NBA teams never represent the local culture. Kobe Bryant is not from L.A. Tim Duncan isn't from San Antonio. Your premise is silly.

However, it is more than fair to prefer Texas or any other state for that matter. There are 18 million people in Texas and just over 3 mil in OK. There is a pretty good chance they will have more athletic talent. There should also be a great deal more diversity.

Oklahoma is not progressive. No question there. As a result there is definitely a lack of culture. Of course that isnt too different from any of the other planes states.

I have lived all over the nation. Oklahoma was just fine. Not my favorite stop, but I certainly enjoyed my time there. Just based on location it is far from one of the best spots in the u.s. I have also lived in Texas. I liked it too. Especially the Hill Country. It is definitely a beautiful spot. But please don't try to act as though Texas is some bastion of progressive thought. I would certainly consider Austin one of my favorite cities along with Athens, Ga. Santa Fe, NM. Eugene, Or. Traverse City, Mi Asheville, NC. Charleston, SC Portland Me Lafayette, LA Monterey, Ca. While OKC and Tulsa wouldn't be on that list, if you couldn't find your Niche there, that is ultimately your fault.

Please remind Sam Bradford and Blake Griffin that they are not from the Oklahoma City area. My gut says if Texas was so great that much of their top talent wouldn't feel the need to head north to the place you loathe so much.

He's from DC and played in Texas for one season. I think calling him a product of Texas gives one Rick Barnes far too much credit. That man should be doing a lot more with the UT basketball team than he has done.

So your gripe seems to be that there are not a lot of liberals, there are no good strip clubs, the liquor laws are tough, and the people of the state are not funding the construction of an American Indian museum??

That all sounds fine to me, as long as that is what the people of Oklahoma want. If you;d prefer more strip clubs, easier access to liquor, and higher taxes, I am sure you can find a state to accommodate your needs.

To the O.P., you can kiss your Indian Museaum goodbye. The Newspaper in my town just had a whole article on how its going to cost several more million dollars just to keep it half-way built and not go through erosion. Might as well just bulldoze the whole thing. Very unfortunate, but it should have never been built next door to the most ghetto flea-market in america. Old Paris.

First of all no team is meant to represent the city they happen to play in.
Second of all write less I really didn't read your novel post because it was ridiculous.
