Does anyone know what the fields are limited to for the Trials? I was wondering what the chances are that Fam and Webb will be granted their respective petitions. |

There is a desired field size. It is not a hard and fast limit. The desired field sizes are in the competition manual for the trials and vary between events. I don't think it will have any effect on Webb or Fam. |

The USATF website shows the field sizes and number of rounds- http://usatf.org/Events---Calendar/2012/U-S--Olympic-Team-Trials-TF/Athlete-Info/Entry/Qualifying-Standards.aspx The site says that the field size is "approximate" and not the minimum field size, meaning the USATF can decided to go with fewer if they want after all of the A standard athletes have been automatically included. Webb has the slowest pending "B" time and is 32 out of a approx. field size of 24. http://usatf.org/Events---Calendar/2012/U-S--Olympic-Team-Trials-TF/Athlete-Info/Entry/Status-of-Entries.aspx Fam is 24 out of an approx. field size of 24. http://usatf.org/Events---Calendar/2012/U-S--Olympic-Team-Trials-TF/Athlete-Info/Entry/Status-of-Entries.aspx |

Looking the SC field over, Josh McAdams is qualified but not running. Anyone know why? |

Wouldn't worry too much. Bernard Lagat hadn't declared until today for the 5k. There are a lot of runners taking their time, and a few who haven't decided yet. |

So when do they actually release the heat sheets? It seems like they put the deadline for declarations awfully late for a lot of the events. |

As someone said on another thread, once all of the A people are included in the field the USATF can just decided to cut off all of the B qualifiers even if the desired field size hasn't been reached. In the past, B runners with pending appeals have showed up at the trials and been told after they are there that they can't run even tho the desired field size hasn't been reached. Personally, I think that is wrong. I think they ought to include all of the A qualifiers and as many B qualifiers as it takes to meet the field size in order of qualification. It would be a simple and transparent rule and people would know where they stand. |

For steeple they don't have to declare until Friday, so a Josh Adams could still come in and push Fam down a spot- http://www.usatf.org/Events---Calendar/2012/U-S--Olympic-Team-Trials-TF/Athlete-Info/Entry.aspx Also for the 5000 there are 3 guys with the A who could come in ahead of Webb who haven't declared, but I assume they have decided to run other events. I would guess they wouldn't decide on the B guys until after the declaration deadline so that they know before deciding how many A guys have to be included in the field. |

So all events for June 22nd should be declared and decided? I'm just trying to figure out why there are still so many "pendings" for the 800m. Thanks. |

I assume it means that the USATF now knows everyone who has declared and the A people are in, but they haven't decided appeals or set the final field size. So the B runners don't know their status yet. If it goes like it has in the past, the B runners will have to show up in Eugene before they find out at the last minute whether they actually get to run - which is not how to run a popsicle stand. |
