Perez just didnt want to run this spring. Heard his teammates arent exactly thrilled he bailed on them in track. Regardless, he is supposed to be back in the fall. A man with his talent should still be a great runner for NCC in the fall.

whitmore is an all-american caliber runner, but top-10 really?
Willamette won't do worst than second at Regionals this year. It's a very deep team that admittedly lacks a very strong number one guy like it's had in years past. Expect five guys at or below 25:30.
He was 7th last year and ran a pretty good 10k in the spring. I'd say it's a reasonable pick
Is the Nationals Course this year the same course that D1 has been using the previous couple of championships?
Yep. LaVern Gibson in Terre Haute, IN

i agree. they've been to the national meet 11 of the past 12 years. they've pretty much set the west coast standard. their lack of front running will hurt, and Oxy can fill that gap. Can Oxy's 3-7 be enough to take out Willamette?
...i know it's july...i'm just takin a break from working tonight and am thinking about november.
bold prediction: the west and south will continue to be irrelevant.
Perez is by no means a talented runner. He's just like that Spanish Boy, they pound out 120 miles a week for mediocre results.
Well, if Perez is back on the team then good for him. The program at NCC has always been about being a family so I'm sure everybody will get along eventually. But who knows what kinda shape he's in, so why don't we leave to smack talk till the season starts. I'm not trying to defend him, but since when is 6th in the nation mediocre?
Thank you! Honestly, when was the last year anyone from the west has done anything at Nationals (team wise)?

Maybe you should check the results for last year. Considering the dude was 7th I think top 10 is a possibility.
I would Guess He's capable of running 14:20 or so on a track in good shape. That for him means running 120 miles a week I'm sure, maybe more, I don't know, I didn't go to NCC But I heard Rumors. I'm not sure if they are true but I've heard from multiple sources and have reason to believe they are. I'm just saying, anyone can run 120 miles a week and god damn you better be able to finish in the top 10 of DIII. I'm not hating on him or anything I just think 120 miles a week is too much unless your running like 13:30's. I think that in order to be considered talented you need to be able to finish in the top 10 of D3 running less than 40-50 miles a week.

Bold prediction: the west and the south will have the hottest chicks. Just like usual.

so Tim Nelson isn't talented?
fool
Who cares how talented he is? Who cares how much anyone runs? You sound like an ignorant high schooler. This is college and it's the best opportunity most runners will have to run fast... why not try to maximize potential?
And why would someone have to finish top 10 in D3 to justify their training? How about 11th? No good?
13:30's though? That'll do it? How about 13:40's? Too slow?
If someone can run 15:00 off 80 mpw but runs 14:30 with 120 are they just wasting their time with the extra miles?
To arbitrarily assign times and places to justify or disqualify the effort someone puts into training is ridiculous.
The flaw in your argument: Different levels of talent. Most guys, and pretty much everyone in D3, can't run 13:30 off any training. To imply that because someone doesn't possess this talent they shouldn't try to maximize their potential to the last drop is utterly stupid.
And don't say you were only judging talent and not knocking his efforts. Your whole post is a not so thinly veiled knock on anyone who puts in hard work and doesn't meet your arbitrary standards.
"anyone can run 120 miles a week and god damn you better be able to finish in the top 10 of DIII"
"I just think 120 miles a week is too much unless your running like 13:30's."
Give me a break.
Now go out and run some more, you're 4 years are slipping away.
No one at NCC has been running 120 miles a week. No one!
Sometimes people need a change of pace. Matt will run or he won't but be clear about a couple of things. He has big time talent. He ran 908 in High School and then went to OK State. He loves CC and will be there if he wants to run. If he doesn't NCC will be fine because its a team sport and NCC will have a team.
so...lets talk about the south...
Will any teams from the South be in the top 30 this year?
unfortunately the south takes away team spots at nationals from teams with far more talent in different regions
