Indian as in the South Asian country known as India. I think the fastest ones I know is someone who ran a 5:10 and low 18 5k in HS, a high 16 5k in college, and someone who ran like a 3:10 marathon. The few Indian people I know who train hard just don't have the genetics or talent needed to be good at sports, and most don't care about athletics. Discuss? |

I know an Indian guy who ran in college in the US and was a 1:54 800m guy. India probably isn't the greatest place to train. They've got the people all right. |

Step 1: Go eat lunch at an Indian buffet Step 2: See if you feel like running at all for the next 8 hours or more. |

Have you ever seen a good American cricket player? They must not have as much athletic talent as everybody else. |

Seb Coe's maternal grandfather was Indian, so that makes him 1/4 Indian. |

"The few Indian people I know who train hard just don't have the genetics or talent needed to be good at sports, and most don't care about athletics. Discuss?" Err, look at this guy and you might want to reconsider regarding "sports" generally : http://indiansportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Sushil_Kumar_wrestler_300.jpg Current world champ, and vegetarian, interestingly enough. He's a superstar in India, and neither a field hockey player nor a cricketer. I think overall though, you're right on Track and Field - hugely underachieving, essentially, I think, due to lack of any serious running culture in India. I cant think it's genetic. |

India is a dominating force in cricket but not the only one. Also, if you've seen cricket you'll see most of the players are kind of fat, they don't exactly look like athletes. A lot of skill is needed for cricket, but not all aspects of athletic ability. |

You might want to take the time to through the thread, or at least the first post, before responding. That way you'll be less likely to look foolish.

One of the top up and coming high school runners in Florida is half Indian she might hold a number of state records and some big name schools have been trying to recruit her. Well she is half Kenyan too, so that might make her not really Indian http://fl.milesplit.com/rankings/2012/outdoor/hs |

I am from pakistan (neighboring india) and honestly we have no interest in sports aside from cricket. its sad bc we are mostly ectomorphs with naturally strong lungs (nowhere near kenyans though). i ran 52.0, 1:56, 4:18, 15:51 and 26:26 off of mediocre mileage and letsrun coaching but the lack of fast twitch really limited my progression in the lower events. If i did not get PF i wouldve probably focused on the 5k. also my parents knew i ran but never came to a track meet so its just not interesting to us. I knew a few other pakistanis who had sub 15 prs. |
