How long ago did you have the procedure? Was it successful? Did you have to have more procedures later? |

I have a labral tear but decided to not have the surgery. Two years later, I have almost no problems. I know this doesn't answer your question, but I felt like chiming in. Good luck. |

Doesn't mean that your problems went away and will never come back though. I would rather get it over with and resume my life knowing I'm not ruining something beyond repair. You don't mess with hips. You can run with total knee replacements, but not hip. |

I completely understand what you're saying. But, things have been good and I'll just deal with any problems as they come up. Again, good luck! |

Count yourself lucky. My life has nearly been ruined by this. I have now had both hips done and the left needs a revision. PS, it started when I was 27. |

I had the procedure several months ago. There were no complications from the surgery. I did my part to make it successful by following ALL the instructions from my surgeon and physical therapists. I did not (and don't expect to) have to have a revision. Here's a summary of the main milestones: May 2010: Diagnosis of labral tear on MRI, no pain. Apr 2011: Started to develop pain in right hip. Oct 2011: Doctor said labral tear caused by FAI. Nov 2011: Underwent arthroscopic surgery. Dec 2011: Weaned off crutches after 7 weeks. Apr 2012: Progessed to elliptical machine. May 2012: Started a running progression. |

Right hip operated on 11/11/11 for FAI, left hip operated on 1/6/12 for FAI and large labral tear. I am a 58 yo female, was running 40 - 45 miles per week. Approx 15 races per year. Swimming, spinning and weights - so was fit and strong going into surgery. So - right leg is now 7 months, left 5 months post surgery - I'm running, but it is slow. Recovery is difficult 2 weeks of good training, then the hip pain flares up again. Major problems with hip flexors and IT band, that I never had before. Massage Therapy once a week helps. Won't be racing this season, will just concentrate on getting speed/strength back for next year. Very frustrating process. |

had labral tear and FAI surgery in April. On crutches (partial weight bearing) for several weeks, started elliptical at 9 weeks IIRC and on schedule to start running at 16 weeks post-op. Still working through some tightness in hip flexor and general weakness in the surgical leg, and don't have full ROM yet but am progressing well |

I didn't expect to have a revision either, but I need one. I had my first FAI procedure in April 2008. Is there anyone out there have any success 10 years down the road or so?

2surgeries, May I ask how many days a week you're running right now? Is there a maximum distance or time limit? |

@ Another Guest - I'm running 20-25 miles per week at the moment, only limitation is - if hip socket hurts, don't run. There were no Surgeon's limitations after the 3 month point on each hip. I'm also doing a lot of spinning, I was swimming but it irritated the socket so I have stopped for the time being. I have found that the problem is not the hip itself, but the surrounding muscles/tendons/ligaments. Today, for example, I am in great pain with piriformis and IT band problems - so I will be going to the gym to use the machines to stretch and pull myself back to some sort of normalcy. |
