Every start a long run on a familiar route and thought "to hell with it" and just walked back to the car? This has happened to me a few times. Sometimes the montony of it all gets the best of me. The lonely trail thing is not for me. I tend to like running around other people. Not necessarily with, but around. I don't compete, just run for fitness. Nothing gets me more stoked than running around beautiful women who happen to have a lot of stamina. I tend to hang behind them and enjoy the sights then move onto another (or get left behind). Keeps me going. How do you manage it? Discuss... |

If its women you are interested in, take up swimming. Leave the trails to those of us who want to be there. |

Dude or dudette, You need to get yourself the modern runner's kit to keep yourself from getting bored with the running part of running. The minimal version is GPS, heart rate monitor, tunes, cell phone with camera to document where you've been, plenty of tasty beverages and energy food, cool shades, compression socks. I think there's a few more necessities I'm forgetting. Glad I could help! |

One word for you that should be two: Crossfit. Running is all about solitude. You do not have to run every run alone. But, if you cannot stand running alone on a trail, you have taken up the wrong sport. |

If you can't run with other people do laps where there are other people, ie, a park. Where do other people run? I am like that too. I like park city running because even though I like to run alone, I like to be "around" other people. I get a little freaked out when there is nobody else around. |

I like to think of it as training, you have to keep focused through the boredom, or you could really just simplify and enjoy the nature around you and ponder thoughts. Or something that I have done before, play pandora radio on your phone and put it in our chest pockets, comedy is good |

Boredom doesn't get to be an issue for me until I get north of 20 miles. If you don't compete you don't really have any need to run long enough to get bored. |

I don't usually get bored because I day-dream the whole time. But if I were you, I would run some new trails. |

Some great responses. I'm a dude. I run roughly five miles a day and do run with tunes. Nothing lazy about it, I put my miles in but I'd rather run in a nice large park with people around. Attractive women definitely motivate me. I've begun to research foreign language apps that I can listen to while running. Might as well learn another language while the hours pass. I'm not going to let boredom stop me from running so I'm looking to new ways to spice it up. |

Maybe you should just pick a sport you enjoy instead of doing a sport that bores you. I run because I enjoy it. If I didn't enjoy it, I'd play soccer or football or golf or whatever sport I actually enjoyed instead. |

This, I like to pretend Im a pro or something, sad, but what the hell. Also, enjoy the scenery. Why would you even run if you don't enjoy it? |

Running is the most effective way for me to lose weight and keep it down. I've been injured trying other sports so running has it's benefits for me. I'm fighting plantar fasciitis right now but that's about it. One thing you can't beat is showing up, lacing on your sneaks and just running. I've tried biking and lugging all that gear around got old fast. I can leave work and just run. |

THIS! Also, I love the alone time and solitude of running, even long runs seem to go by quickly after I just get into that zen like mode. |

This. I pity those who get "bored" alone with their own thoughts. I'm afraid the problem this guy has really has very little to do with running. |
