http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/multisport/adventure-racing/Obstacle-Force.html?page=all "I was on track to run a 2:13 marathon a year ago, but then I got injured. My best time so far was 2:16 a couple years ago. That was all while working full time. So I think I can do it. I just need the opportunity. What I hope for is financial support so I can work out full time. Technically, it's so I can properly rest between workouts. I can break two hours. I have the knowledge. I have the discipline. I have the right attitude. All I need is the opportunity to train full time for one and a half to two years. Eighty thousand dollars is nothing. Countries and organizations have spent millions trying to accomplish what I can do for mere pocket change. Maybe that's why I keep running all of the races: in the hope that someone will believe in me." Discuss. |

from the end of the above article "(In case you wanted to know more about Call—like we did after he answered that last question—here you go: Call holds the Guinness World Recordsfor fastest mile of lunges, which he then repeated wearing a 40 pound weight vest, although Guinness didn’t accept that record. He also qualified for the 2008 Olympic trials in distance running and set the course record at the 2007 Top of Utah Marathon with a time of 2:16:38.)" |

Is he the fastest anyone has ever been while working full time? That is pretty insane. |

I say let him go for it. I for one hope his dream becomes reality. |

Not unless he has run 2:08. |

He makes a pretty big claim but I hope this doesn't turn into a hate thread because this guy is a more legit runner than most people here. To answer your question, Derek Clayton worked full time so this fella has quite a ways to go. |

I'm just surprised that a Greek runner still thinks of himself as Spartan. Sparta hasn't been a state since what, Alexander's conquests? |

What an absolute idiot. Why does the media give these idiots air time? Can someone write an article about my claims that I will become the next Tom Brady? So stupid. |

Steve Jones ran a World Record and then 2:07 while working full time. When he ran full time, he was slower. |

Great for him to love the sport and be pretty good at it, but i do think it is not just ignorant, but also disrespectful to banter around with talk of a sub 2 hour marathon when he hasn't broken 2:15, let alone 2:05. Otherwise good for him but i'm afraid we'll we be waiting pretty long for the first sub 2 hour marathon. - Unless Cam Levins jumps to 260mpw. |

This guy is a moron. |

And Clayton did it almost a half century ago. |

People aren't hating on him because of his legit running ability. They're hating on him because he is an idiot who thinks he can go from 2:16 (aka 2:13 "shape") to 1:59 in 2 years. |
| No Way |

It is pretty incredible that he knows what it takes to run 2:16, since he's done it, but still believes he can break 2. |

Spartans never retreat. Spartans never surrender. Come back with your shield, or on it... |

Yeah, cocaine is a helluva drug. This guy is a beast and I respect what he's done, but he really is making an a$$ of himself by saying stuff like that. Am I really supposed to believe that a 34 year-old white dude with a 2:16 PR to his name is gonna be the first to break 2 hours? Give me a break. |

Can you imagine the hate Ryan Hall would get if he said he was going to break 2 hours? This is many times more ridiculous than that, and that's saying something. |

He is in for a very rude awakening. 2:16 and 1:59 are a world away from one another. Just like 2:16 and 1:59 are a world away in the 800 meters. Not only that, but he has yet to test himself against the world's best where the last six miles become tactical. This where even the best, sometimes experienced, runners fail. How old is this guy? Sub 2:10 might not even be within reach if he's older. |

Oh, he's 34? This isn't the movies. Not a shot in hell. |

8 seconds faster per mile than anyone has ever done? A marathon at just 6 second faster per mile than world record half marathon pace? This is equivalent to someone running 12:13 5k (3:56 pace) with regards to how much faster it would have to be relative to WR pace. Unless he has some insane drugs/genetic modifications up his sleeve to bust out I don't think it's even remotely possible right now for ANY runner that has lived yet, and certainly not a 34 year old 2:16 guy. |
