I am coming off a four week break from running and am looking to start up again in a more minimalist shoe hoping to dodge the calf heart attack I get about once a year. I currently run 20-30 miles per week in Mizuno Inspire 8's. I use orthotics and want to loose them too. 60% roads 40% packed dirt.

Suggestions?

Go to a good local running specialty store with your old inspires and orthotics so that, in person, being able to see what is going on, they can make some suggestions - better suggestions than anonymous invisible Internet posters can give.

Between Inspires (stability shoe) and orthotics you may be getting over-corrected. That could lead to calf issues.

be advised your calves & achilles will be sore when you transition to minimalist shoes..
Ditch the orthotics.
