say you dont do a segment of base training and just jump into workouts...can u run a fast mile??

What's fast? Fast enough to win some races? Yes, if you have talent and the ones you run against don't. Fast compared to what you have potential to do if you had a solid base? No.

Yes, its definitely possible to run very fast at a mile without much training. But imagine how fast some of these men could have run with modern day training techniques!

George walked a lot and raced frequently, making a good living. He was capable of something close to 51 minutes for 10 miles, wasn't he? Most people would consider that a decent base. Rarely a pacemaker and on a cinder track, 4:12 not so bad.

Seb Coe ..... did he ever do base training? Seems like he did everything but base training ....
