At the Atlanta Track Club All-Comers Meet at Emory University tonite in very hot and humid conditions Janet ripped thru splits of 4:54 and 4:52 to run a 15:22 high for 5000m on the track (no FAT, just running clock) to finish second to Cory Baumann of the ATC Racing Team. She is ready for the 10,000 at the trials! |

Shalane--Janet--Lisa Uhl will finish top 3 at the trials. 4th is crucial because of Shalane running the marathon (maybe). 4th and 5th will be Deena and Amy. |

Janet's in the BAA 10k two days later. It'll be Shalane, Amy, Janet, Deena, Lisa. Deena won't get the standard and Shalane will opt out. |

I wrote to Bawcom to clarify this. She's running the Trials 10,000 that Friday night. She said if she places top four, no BAA 10K. If she doesn't, she'll get on a plane that Saturday for the Boston race on Sunday. |

I think Janet has about 40/60 chance of making the team in the 10K. Know one knows for sure who is running the 10K, but assuming the 2 big dogs show up, there are about 3 girls with similar ability who will be competing for the 3rd spot. I would say those 3 are Hastings, Janet and Koll. It is hard to count out Kaster, MLB, Fleshman and Rhines as well, but based on what I have seen so far they are on the outside looking in. The problem with predicting the 10K is that most of the evaluation is based on other distances since there are not a lot of track 10Ks. Also, there are a few 5K girls who may jump into the 10K to hedge their bets against not making it in the 5K; the 10K/5K is very doable this year. I am assuming the 10K at the trials wil be fast since there are a few girls who don't have the standard, but if it is a tactiacl race, then I would Janet's chances are a lot less. |

Does Uhl still need a qualifier? Leading her to an A is the only reason I can imagine why Shalane would run this. Otherwise it's a pretty silly tuneup. |

Koll doesn't need the A she got it at Payton...Flanagan said after the marathon trials that she would be running the track trials because she loves the atmosphere/energy/drama of the event...though ironically I think having her in the race somewhat takes away from that because she will be the winner of an event she's not going for, but whatever it'll still be cool to see her on the track. Shalane also recently said in an interview that her race strategy at the trials will be "whatever helps Lisa make the team." So even though Uhl doesn't need the A, judging by what type of runner she isI would guess being paced by shalane through tough, honest, even splits is what would yield the best result for her (might have helped her hang on a bit better at Payton when she got eaten up by Hastings and almost Kastor in the second half) |
