dude can run 64s all day baby
Might as well. Hope he gets it.
RUT ROH!
IF he gets the A I think he'd have a good chance of making the US 5000 team. With Solinsky injured and Teg focused on the 10k he'd only have to beat Ritz and Bumby. I think he could do it.
WEBB 2012!
FINALLY.
I actually just checked their web site to see if he was in the 5000 a few hours ago.
They have Mo Ahmed and Cale Allen listed as pacers. Mo Ahmed just ran 27:34 April 29th, but Cale Allen only has a 14:03 PR. The field (so far) is all 13:35+ guys.
this is brilliant!!!
what is the A standard again, 13:20?? my god that is so fast. But maybe he can do it!!
although, his interview this past weekend from adidas... where the interviewer asked if webb had plans to move to the 5k this year... webb said "its a bit too late for that"
what it this was his coaches plan all along?
as we saw he isn't comfortable in field with 20.guys better than him... He needs to hit A in low-key meet with great pacing and get his head straight until trials....
I knew there was a reason he was doing those 5000m's earlier...let's go Webb!!!
Will this be live?
Great move by him. It doesn't look like he can get the A standard for the 1500m in time, and even if he does he'd be a long shot to make the team.
If he can pull of the 5000m standard this weekend, I think he'll be a threat to make the team if the race is moderately paced. It was won in 13:27 in 2000, 2004, and 2008. It seems to take in the 13:40's to get to the finals.
I don't see Webb making the team if the boys go from the gun and run sub 13:15, but I think he has a realistic chance in a 13:27 final. Not saying I would bet on him making it, but he is making the right move here.

Does anyone think Vig will be able to coach Webb to decent 5000m times? I know he's an established middle distance coach, but it will be interesting to see what progress he can make with Webb in the longer distances

Good lord are you that clueless about the current US 5000m scene?
yeah what about lopez? is chris derrick doing the 5k at the trials? Rupp has got to be as close to a lock as possible right? even if he gets the A he is definitely not a sure thing.
The fact that any of you think he has any chance whatsoever at the A standard is just... incredible.
Does he really have to get the A standard? What if he gets the Olympic B and finishes top 3 at the trials? Assuming he is behind two guys that have the A, wouldn't he (or anybody with the B in 3rd place) get to go?

No, totally and completely wrong.
Seriously, this needs to be a sticky thread at the top, "How do you qualify for the Olympics in 2012"
Never forget the Bowerman 5k fiasco!

he has a better chance for 13:19 than 3:35
