This chick just won the indoor AND outdoor 800m!? Not on the radar, here?

Saw Flotrack interview. She seemed so nice. Happy for her.
This board is dominated by a chauvinists who only talk about the media darlings or girls they think are hot. Mackie is married, so that doesn't help her cause on here. Hasay got her own thread for coming in third place, but there is scarcely a mention anywhere of Emily Infeld who got second. Makes no sense.

It makes plenty of sense. The media darlings aren't necessarily the most successful or the best; look at any other sport. Good looks obviously help, and a compelling narrative makes a better story. Nobody knows who Mackie is. She could surely be an interesting person and tell a great story with her sudden dominance, but for whatever reason, people aren't interested. They know Jordan Hasay from her high school years, so they're interested. People need a reason to become fans of Nachelle Mackey or Emily Infeld, and for some people, just running fast isn't enough. They need context or a story.
She'll make a good wife some day. I hope she enjoyed getting her MRS degree
Well, at least Mackie IS dominating. Hasay? Not so much. After winning in winter, and running top times all spring, people who follow the sport should know Mackie by now. Jordan was great in high school and great in college too. I fail to see the compelling nature of that story. Girls like Pappas, D'Agostino, and Feldman have shown super dramatic improvement since high school, and that is always interesting im my opinion. Feldman's high school PR in the 1600 was 5:21 for Pete's sake!
Agreed! There needs to be threads about the quality performers. Ironic how people trying to justify Hasay's loss, as able to overshadow Floods win, and Infelds 2nd place performance. Mackie has had a great season.
And if it is all about 'looks' well I fail to see why Hasay has a following? She is hardly attractive with that child-like hair and persistant tongue-waggling photos.

Meow, nordicmama. I've seen you ripping on Jordan in other threads. Why don't you give it a rest?

Agree completely. Hasay resembles the Kelly or Skipper dolls we used to play with--she's not Barbie, she's the pre-pubescent little sister.
This is what nordicmama posted on the thread talking about Jordan's tactics in the 1500. Catty.Jordan is pleasant and giggly like a young high schooler, and running with her tongue out is endearing to some people. While she seems like a very nice person, she does not come off like a grown-up college student. I can't imagine that even after a dental procedure, classier runners like Reid or Van Dalen would ever sound so annoyingly cutesy. At least Hasay says she now recognizes that she should stop crying when she loses, so that's progress toward adulthood.

If YOU think there aren't enough threads about quality performers, why don't YOU start some?
There isn't much point when they just get overturned by morons posting responses like justifying "why Hasay didn't win NCAAs".
I don't personally know any of these runners so I have nothing against any of them, including Hasay. However, I am mystified about why letsrun, flotrack, and newspapers keep talking Hasay ad nauseum. There are other girls right now who are running far better, including at Oregon. Why not more threads on English Gardner, for example? What a talent, and what a compelling story too! What irritates some of us is that we suspect the fascination with Hasay, despite her lack of dominance right now, is due to something other than her running. After all, letrsun posters keep mentioning her hair, her abs, her ripped body, how adorable she is. Therefore, you should have no problem with others of us saying we just don't get it from a running standpoint or from an appearance and personality standpoint.
Flotrack interview lengths after NCAA championship 1500 race:
1st place Katie Flood: 4:09
2nd place Emily Infeld: 2:45
3rd place Jordan Hasay: 6:12 (and was truncated before it was finished.)
Hasay has earned media attention and if you don't think so, you have not been following USA running for the last couple of years. Tyson Gay only has the 5 or 6th best time in the U.S., but gets a lot more attention becasue of what he has done in the past. Please let me know if there is a part of this you don't understand?
No one is saying she doesn't deserve media attention. What we're saying is she doesn't deserve more attention than people who are actually winning, or more attention than people who are beating her in the same race, or more attention than any other comparable female runner who doesn't have hair like Rapunzel. Infeld eat her but got an interview a third of the length and of subpar quality (the background was so noisy you could barely hear her.)
That's cause Infeld's interviews are chock full of "I feel like ____" a million times. Just watch one. I love the girl, but it's hilarious.
Jordan Hasay is one of the rising American stars, is consistent as anyone, and gives really good, insightful interviews.
That said, I'd like more interesting questions posed to Abbey about how she's gotten so good, what it's like to be competing against these runners and winning, and what she and Coach Coogan do up in New Hampshire. That would certainly help out the sport and give all the runners who weren't high school record setters more perspective and hope.
Completely agree! Hasay did well and place 3rd, however like you mentioned, Infeld beat her and was completely overlooked, as was Flood. The interview of 6mins for a 3rd place finisher is clearly unecessary. People are always justifying her defeats and making excuses.
And even if Hasay's interviews are "better spoken", well these are athletes not public speakers. I would much rather hear from a good athlete than a little girl crying about ow she didn't win. Suck it up princess, your time is long over and the trials will reflect this.
Hahahahaha a great summary move over hasay there's new girls on the block

I think there is another side to your statement above. There are a few reasons why Hasay gets so much attention, and one is because she was great in high school. People have been following her career for years. That alone is bound to bring her more attention. Why does German Fernandez get more attention than other athletes running comparable times to what he's doing right now? An athlete that people have followed for years is going to get more attention than lesser known, but equally successful athletes. Secondly, Jordan has had a very successful career. There are very few current distance runners with her level of success and all-american awards. Finally, she's on one of th most media covered college track teams in the country. Oregon and the Oregon media do a better job of promoting the Oregon team and Hasay than track athletes at most other Division 1 schools.
