He won the first 13:14.72 and the other in 14.59--. Elites don't do that. |

Too bad you're not his coach so you could tell him that. Would you also tell Mo that elites don't run 3;34/13:12 withing an hour either. |
| Well there is always this |

14:59 is not a race. It is a cool down. |

The times you posted are wrong. He ran 13:19 in the first, and about 13:50 in the second. |

The second race was definitely not a cool down. He was running well within himself the first half, but then started winding up the pace towards the end. |

Sounds like he did a workout after the race, and just did it in another race instead of going somewhere else. Very Al Sal. |

People don't say anything when guys do a 5k / 15 or 8 / 15 double for the workout, how is this different? |

Doesn't really matter...he won't be on the Olympic Team. Hopefully this will get him tuned up for the local Turkey Trot in November. |

So 13:19 and 13:58, with what I thought was less rest than an hour. That's 27:17 combined, which is what I would expect him to be able to run for the 10,000 in a great field, fully rested right now. Simply sounds like a good workout and Salazar has Ritz just going on pure strength training, which seems to have worked for him in the past. The sharpening will come. |

It would have been cooler if he opened with a 13:20 and then came back with a 13:00. |

He DID sharpen in 2009. |

No reason to sharpen now if the Olympics are the goal, assuming he gets the "A" standard at the trials in the 10,000 or makes the 5,000 team. Ironically, he has been pretending to be a marathoner, looks like he is gearing for the 10,000, but is probably best over 5,000. |

Some very slight and cautious sharpening sounds like the answer here. Ritz closed the first 5k in about 59 seconds, so it sounds like there was some pre-Trials speed work bound up with this double. |

My concern is the weather at the trials. How hot and humid will it be? Who will go after the "A" with Ritz? I always felt that it doesn't do the guys who don't have it any good to run a pace slower than it, but then, I'm not a 28:00 10,000 guy. |
