How good will Katie Flood get before she graduates?!? 6/9/2012 3:29PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
This girl has mind blowing talent. When was the last time a true sophomore won the 1500 NCAA title. She has already run 4:28 in the mile and 8:55 3k. At the trials I think she can get well below 4:10. If she can stay healthy, at least a few of Jenny Barringer's records will go down. Flood, Hasay and Infeld will all make the 1500 finals at the trials and run some big Pr's!!

It's awesome that Flood, Infeld and Hasay went 1-2-3. They are all models of consistency and along with D'Agostino are the REAL future of American women's distance running.

Realistically they are 13 seconds behind 17 year old Ethiopians, at least they are cute, they will make nice wives someday.

Um Hasay made it as a junior in high school with 4:14. These women are all in sub 4:10 shape and will without a doubt make to the final barring disaster.
Flood gates are open

Katie Flood has an outside shot of making the team. Sure, it's a loaded field, but she can stick with a hot pace and kick hard off it (the 4:28 mile with Kipyego). She's a gamer and a good tactician.

My guess is Infeld and Hasay do the 5000 at the Trials since they have a better shot there.

To answer your question, Katie Flood will be REALLY good by the time she graduates. Super talented.

It all depends if her weight loss was responsible or she took shortcuts to get there.
no.

Obviously they are Ethiopians who can run faster...that was an insanely tactical race in 104 degree heat!!

Flood: 3 seconds off PR
Infeld: 6 Seconds off PR
Hasay: 4 seconds off PR

It is also worth mentioning that they are the three best looking in the race...along with Corey Mcgee who finished 6th.

What are you talking about, shortcuts? Flood was an age-group phenom who set records in middle school. She struggled a bit during puberty her soph/junior years in high school before coming into her body and winning NXN and running like 2:10, 4:25, 9:24 or something at her final state meet.

She's definitely become more lean and muscular and lost a bit of weight, but she's always been a phenom and has successfully gotten through changes in her body.
lemme get that

She has monster potential. It will be a great battle between Jordan and her in XC this season.

She's already a solid 10/10. It can't get much better than that.

Right now i'd have to say that Hasay and Infeld are a little more consistent but i'd say that Katie might have the most upside. Abbey D has a ton of upside too. It'll be interesting to see how all 4 develop.
uhhh??

Flood vs. Hasay in XC? What about Abbey D'Agostino? A 15:23 runner (so far this year) and NCAA Champ.

I think it'll be Hasay and D'Ags at the end, similar to this year, with Flood dropped before the final stretch.

She came out of HS with tons of talent and potential. The major concern most people should have is that she is running at Washington where there seems to have been a disturbing history of injuries and other physical issues.
Let's all hope that she breaks the mold and is still on-track by time she is a senior.

I have a feeling you're someone who is getting in a huff because you think this should be "off-limits". But in case you actually do want to discuss it, here's my 2 cents. By "shortcuts" I mean there's an easy way to lose weight, not eating, and there's a hard way, eating a healthy balanced diet with a slight caloric deficit. If you take the easy way, you'll see improvements more quickly but will ultimately fall flat. The hard way takes long term patience but you'll continue to improve and will probably never regain the weight. I'm not sure why you bring up middle and high school stuff, that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about going from this- http://www.imageofsport.com/image/4753908 - to this- http://www.imageofsport.com/image/18382503 - in one year. If she's done it the right way, then she's got a great career ahead of her. If she's taken the other way then it'll show eventually.

I'm not sure what all the weight fuss is about. She was a little heavy last year (particularly in cross) because she was injured all summer and Metcalf kept her at 40 mpw during the season. It is a tribute to her immense talent that on such limited training and with extra weight she still placed 6th at PAC 10s in XC.

Now she's been consistently running in the 60s or 70s for mileage all summer and all fall. She doesn't look unhealthy at all; she looks strong and muscular (when you under eat you lose muscle and gain fat, though you do lose weight). This is the simple leanness and toned ness that comes from running more mileage and eating a healthy diet.

Sounds like she's good then. I didn't mean to turn this into a weight debate but I always challenge the people who get their panties in a bunch when you mention it.

Some people get defensive, in a hurry, when this issue comes up. I think we've all noticed it here on this board whenever a thread gets started about a Washington woman, whether it's Goebels, Flood or whoever. Makes one wonder why so defensive.
