sack of syhit
Mottram even worse...
No one should be surprised. He hasn't run a single quality race this year - either for time or place. If it wasn't for what he did several years ago, his efforts this year would have gone totally without notice.
He will not make the olympic team and I would be surprised if he even makes it to the final.
Webb pwns McNiff!!!
But I read on letsrun that talent doesn't go away, so he will medal in the Olympics.
I guess this means he has to get his A qualifying time @ the trials itself? Good luck with that.
Why does he still have a contract? There are guys who could use it and have run faster.

True. Webb is done, old and yesterday's news.
He's sub-4. His time is about 3:55 mile pace. It aint over until the Trials race is done.

You're right, of course. However, I would not bet on him in a kicker's race. And since it's unlikely the heats or final will be fast races, how's he going to get to 3:35?

When I questioned why Ed Torres had a contract before he retired, NOBODY took my side, which would be including you. Webb has EASILY done enough to have a contract, right now.
Honestly I want this guy to get his mojo back as much as the next person, maybe even more, but the 1500 is not as weak as it used to be for American distance runners, albeit quite a bit weaker than it should be. I think the best event for Webb is the 10k, he needs a longer race to have his head settle in, 1500 is too short for him to regain composure if something goes wrong. He has more talent than anyone born on American soil ever has, but his head game is weak, he should get with a shrink, sort through all the jumble and shoot for 5ks for the next few years, running a 10k twice a year and shoot for 16' medal with Rupp moving up to the marathon, and Solinsky doubtfully competing another race.
the 10k is too long of a race that offers a million breaks and moves that can rattle him more than a 1500m. 24 laps of thinking minus 3 3/4
It's just natural for a runner who has been competing at the 1500 for so long to shift more towards slow twitch muscle fibers. The 3,000 should be run more often.
Kevin Selby recently interviewed Matt Tegenkamp on Flotrack. In the article, Tegenkamp talks about coming to the realization that he is 30 years old now. He's been noticing for years not having the 'pop' and 'spring' in his legs every day like he did when he was 24. Webb is 29. Webb is right there. I know it doesn't happen to everyone, but most people slow down and have a harder and harder time recovering from workouts / races as they get older (lagat closing in 39 today for a 3:34 wtf?) This is where Webb is at. I like alan webb, and I wish him the best. It is obvious that he has the capacity in a fast race to ride the train to a 3:35.49. However, what place would he get? What place has he been getting getting his doors blown off? It just looks like Webb is getting older. People age differently. That said, I wish Webb the best, and I hope they go out in 45 seconds at 300 at the trials only to see Webb take off and run 2:50 for the last 1200. I do take a positive from this race. He was at 2:56 and closed in 43 for his 3:39. It looks like there is one final component missing to the webb equation. maybe vig can figure it out.
Lagat has 8 years on him and still runs much faster. It surprises the hell out of me, because in all honesty, I believe Webb is overall more talented than Lagat was in his prime.

Lagat is his prime contended for gold medals on the world stage and even now contends for medals well past his prime. Webb in 2007 was in his prime and contended just once in the last straightaway. Just once. Webb is past his prime too and can't even sniff an "A" standard. This is why your handle is so apt.

That's crazy! Lagat has 2 olympic medals and has run 3:26. Lagat has always had a better kick and better speed.
Webb has never come close to winning a medal in worlds, let alone making an olympic final. He ran a handful of good diamond league meets. He couldn't make the olympic team in 08 and ran terrible finals in worlds in 05 and 07.
What is this talent you're talking about?
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
