What's to discuss ? You're right. I wasn't a Rupp fan for a LONG time, but I've turned the corner. He's the best 5K/10K threat we've had in a long time. Rupp is a solid medal contender in the 10K, and while Cam has had a phenomenal season, he is not.
In 2012, no doubt. 2016 though?
Really it's always hard to tell how long someone will continue to progress, but I'd say Rupp has gone against the norm with his continuous steady progression. Cam could be at his level in a few years, but I'd say the odds are against him.

Rupp won't be at his 2012 level in 2016. This is obvious to the intelligent. Rupp has an advantage over Levins currently. Rupp would defeat Levins 9 times out of 10, but in a year or two, it could be very close.
I'll be happy to see the new and improved Levins challenged by someone. He just turned on another gear and ran away from very talented Kenyans in two different races. The Canadian trials should be easy for him(he still has to run those right?), I just hope he doesn't blow his wad before the Olympics.
Well I was trying to stick with the Olympic theme here (this is obvious to the intelligent) so your comments about the next couple of years don't apply.
And I don't think it is obvious that Rupp will not be at this same level in 2016, when he will still be on the younger side of 30. For reference, Mo Farah is 29.

How stupid are you? Rupp will be 30 in 2016, and like Teg, well past his prime.
Rupp will be doing even better in 2016. Cam will be burned out/overtrained like Solinsky.

Rupp is not even the best US 5000 meter runner right now. Ritz has finished 6th at worlds which is higher the Rupp has ever finished and the moment Lagat announces he will run 10,000 he will become a bigger threat than Rupp has ever been.
Think before yo speak.
even now Cam willl smoke Rupp. Just think of the future years Cam will destroy all around him. Surely only WRs to follow
uhhh rupp's coligate pr was 27:33, levins has not broken 28, maybe in the 5k but rupp runs the 10k so no one really cares who can beat him at the 5k because he doesnt even run it, no one in the US can beat him in the 10k,or canada for that matter

This thread is stupid, Rupp will never close anything in 54.26. Rupp is a time trialer of the highest level and Levins like Farah are racers. Levins is a medal contender and Rupp is a 5th place contender in the Games until Rupp runs 26.2 miles.
This discussion is stupid and literally ignorant, Rupp has never won a race in the last 150, he tried indoors and Lagat and Lamong whipped his ass! Levins can race off 27:30 and 13:15 as we saw earlier this year. Yes, Rupp has run faster, but Rupp does not win races in the last 150 and really never will as he just does not have that closing burst. Yes, he can time trial an even paced 1500 under 3:35, but in the same race Robbie Andrews almost walked him down from nearly 3 seconds back at the bell!
Grow up, Rupp has never beaten anyone in the last 150 as he is Mo Farah's bitch!
Rupp is as close to the 2nd coming of Pre that we will see.
Anything short of an Olympic medal will be failure, just as Pre failed years ago.
You need to compare 2008 Rupp to 2012 Cam not 2012 Rupp who has got 4years of quality training with world champ for a training partner.... Cam will get a lot of experience in Olympics , and try to get higher place than 2008 Rupp , if he does , that would be great achievement!
Neither is a medal contender in the 10000. Ethipoia and Kenya each have 3 guys that will be working together to prevent that from happening.

Yes, your man crush on Rupp. Very strange. He is married. Leave him be.

^^^ is correct. By 2016, my guess is Rupp will be on the marathon team and Levins will be a has-been. Where's he going from here - 200 mpw in quadruples?
I'm confused-- is there an actual debate? This is simple: Rupp runs 12:58 and 26:48. No other American (even Lagat) has those credentials at those distances. Also, there's absolutely no indication that-- again, at those distances-- runners slow to a stop at 30, so I think we can expect Rupp to pursue PRs through the next Olympic cycle as well (Lagat set the AR at what, 32?).
The Salazar plan is for Rupp to continue to get 10sec/yr faster in the 10k. In 2012 we already see fitness-wise he's way ahead of where he was last year. I can easily imagine him keeping this up until he's 28 and leveling off for 2-3 more productive years.
