That is a terrible decision.
Wheelchair wheels tear up the track.
It is fine to have wheelchair competitions, but have them on a hard surface like a road, not a track.
There was a guy who used to ride around the track at Shoreline Community College in Seattle. The track ended up with deep wheelchair ruts in the 1st lane and was totally destroyed by just that one person.
Tracks are not cheap. It's a dumb decision and needs to be rectified.
What do you think?
I volunteer time at an USOC Olympic and Paralympic training center. The 10 year old field house contains a 200 meter Mondo track that gets a lot of use daily by not only wheeled track athletes but wheeled basketball, rugby and other teams and athletes. There is no damage whatsoever to that surface. I have been to competitions across the country and have seen no damage to the tracks on which the wheeled athletes compete.
As many as 20 state athletic assocations allow disabled high school students to participate in HS T&F in various programs. It is good to see Ohio up the game.
Visit
for additional information on wheeled sports.
My only question is why only laned races 100-400? I wanna see epic NASCAR-style 3200's where they're drafting and ramming into each other for 8 laps. I wanna see wheels fly off and rubber burn.
Would a REAL sport settle for this?

Cool. Washington's done it for as long as I have been around the sport, and I think it's good for those wheelchair athletes.
