That was just depressing. Losing 10 seconds to Cam that last 300 meters. I hope Levins gets fried in the 5k. Poor Chris. Hopefully he rebounds in two weeks and has a great race at the trials.

Who?
Chris Derrick is better than Geb or Bekele?
So "depressing" is getting beat by a guy who runs 60 miles/week more than him? Call the suicide hotline if he doesn't make the Oly team!
He's a legend in his mind.
I'm talking American. I could care less about africans and whatnot that just attend school in the US, take advantage of everything US and whatnot. Train in East Africa and stay in East Africa. Americans would be infinitely better if they ran 10 miles to and from school from the age of 5 like all of those kenyans do.

Americans would all be fried and injured according to half the coaches out there blabbering about "overtraining when young" and "burnout" and whatnot.
I don't know enough about NCAA history beyond the past five years to answer that, but I will say that I'm super impressed with Chris Derrick. While I'm a Canadian and therefore a Levins fan by default, Derrick's post-race interview on Flotrack was legitimately tough to watch. The guy works very hard and epitomizes class in all his interviews. Hopefully, he bounces back from this at Trials and has a great enough post-collegiate career that we never have to dwell on him being winless at NCAA's.
One of the greatest American prep runners and former American record holder says burnout is all mental. If you have the cajones to do you, there is no reason not to.
This does happen to be Stanford's finals week. Southern Utah had there's a month ago. Let's see what happens when they both go pro.

You're gonna eat your words when Cam beats Lawi for two titles.
Poor Chris
Really?
Yeah, maybe Cam and Sambu should have let him have the win, that would make track and field MUCH better in general.
Hopefully he rebounds in two weeks and has a great race at the trials.
I equally hope he rebounds. It sounds like his training is great, as long as he takes care of that foot i'm sure he'll do just fine. Chris is a superstar and I want to see him tearing it up alongside Rupp.
Alan Webb??
I think long term it's a good thing Derrick didn't win any NCAA titles. Think about it this way. He's going to be super, super hungry post collegiality because I'm sure he feels like he's got unfinished business. Honestly I think Derrick has a very good shot at making the 10k US team. My order goes Rupp, Ritz, and then Derrick/Teg.

I don't think he does, there are 27:30ish guys now whose names I can't be bothered to remember because of how high Rupp/Ritz have raised the bar. So I don't expect Derrick to get 3rd at the Trials when he only got 3rd in 28 something at NCAAs.

"Burnout is all mental," is about the stupidest comment out there."
The mind is in the body, and there is no separation.
Aside from that, you can get burned out from over training by depleting minerals etc., in your body and harming your immune system.
Balance is the key, and knowing how and when to rest.
A lot of Africans never got the chance to come to America and run in the NCAA system so they don't have the NCAA championship either although they did win the Olympics that one year but still no NCAA championship
Derrick not winning the 10k last night might be more a reflection of poor coaching than anything else. Hopefully he'll turn pro and find a coach that will get him to peak for national championships. If you look at how the other stanford guys finished last nite, none of them performed well.
I do not think he would have outkicked Cam, but his chances of winning would have been better if he did not take the pace over the last few laps. There was no way he was going to drop Cam and Sambu.
