Over 110 MPW (consistently), base mileage in the 140's. Key workouts were mile repeats or 2mile repeats, and Jack Daniels traditional long run workouts! Those really helped out a lot and simulated the fatigue you feel in the marathon. I was playing around with a lot of different training and kept running in the mid 2:20's, but once I started JD's workouts, it really helped and I finally went under 2:18!
It also helped, that I had a decent base(6 weeks), and then got in over 200 miles of marathon specific workouts under my belt before I ran a pr. The entire marathon cycle was about 6 months, with multiple half marathon races leading up to the marathon. One discouraging thing, was that I never ran a PR in the half marathon, since my focus was in the full. My legs felt a little stale, like I had lost a bit of speed, but it was okay since I wanted to race a good marathon.
Good Luck!
