I finished my college freshmen year with poor results I haven't improved. Here are my best times from high school: 400m-50.37 200m-22.7 800m-2:02(first leg relay split) I've been training as a sprinter in high school for the 200 and 400 for about 3 years. I don't know if I should abandon the 200 and work on the 400 and 800. I weight 153lbs and I'm 6'2". A reason why I think I should abandon the 200 is because I lack the strength and pure speed. I'm weak in the weight room. I'm just really at a loss here. I'm trying to plan my summer workout to get much better but I don't know which direction to take. |

Yes. Your sprinting prs are not very good, but they show potential for a solid 800 runner |

No, your times are not very good. But they show potential for a good 1500. You should move up to the 1500 |

So lift! Get big, Get ripped! 153 is skinny as f***, steven cram was 6'1.5 and he weighed the same as you, only difference was he was a pure miler! Obviously this is Letsrun so everyone will say you should be a 800 or up runner, but if you hit 170-180 and get more explosive power I'm sure you will improve leaps and bounds in the sprints! |

If you put in a couple 100 mile weeks you may be a solid 5000-10000 type. Your great leg speed velocity could benefit you in the final stages of those races. I could see you easily going 27:30-26:50, depending on your natural aerobic tolerance. |

What can you run a 100 in? I don't think your 400 is slow for high school. You should eat more food, spend a little time on weights and pure speed. Then if your sprint times stall after that go ahead and move up. Whatever speed you can gain will benefit your 800. |

Have you ever considered an ultramarathon? Your 400m speed indicates great potential to finish the 100th mile in under 10 min. |

I'll provide a serious reply. Keep working on the sprints for another year. It seems like lots of people have a bad freshman year. Stick with it, and if you see nothing in the following year then consider moving up. |

I'd try training for the 400/800. If it doesn't work out you could always go back to 200s without having lost much speed. Try increasing your mileage over the summer and throw in some hard hill sprints once a week. |
