Looking at this list, it's difficult to see Haile in the top three. Unless the younger bloods get dropped before the final laps. The top 4 contenders for the 3 positions would be Haile, Sihine, Merga and Gebremariam. The spoilers might be Tilahun Regassa, Gereme Mosinet with 27:53 10k(road) in Paderborn this April, 10000M Mannen Gebrselassie Haile 18-04-73 ETH 26:22.75 Sihine Sileshi 29-01-83 ETH 26:39.69 Merga Imane 15-10-88 ETH 26:48.35 Gebremariam Gebre 12-10-84 ETH 26:52.33 Kuma Abera 31-08-90 ETH 27:22.54 Bekele Tariku 28-02-87 ETH n/a Abdosh Ali 25-08-87 ETH 27:04.92 Kende Yetwale 10-01-91 ETH 28:42.29 Geremew Mosinet 10-02-92 ETH n/a Desisa Benti Leleisa 14-01-90 ETH 28:46.74 Regassa Tilahun 18-01-90 ETH 27:32.60 Eshete Mekashaw 19-03-84 ETH n/a Bekele Azmeraw 22-01-86 ETH 28:20.61 Tsegay Atsedu 17-12-91 ETH 29:17.10 Dero Birhanu n/a ETH n/a Belete Assefa 03-03-91 ETH n/a Ayeko Thomas 10-02-92 UGA 28:27.54 Kiplimo Abraham 14-04-89 UGA n/a Gebreyohanes Samson 07-02-92 ERI n/a Ghebreslassie Ghirmay n/a ERI n/a Tadesse Kidane 31-08-87 ERI 27:06.16 Medhin Teklemariam 24-06-89 ERI 27:37.21 Barrios Juan Luis 24-06-83 MEX 27:30.68 Moran Ed 27-05-81 USA 27.43.13 Bekele Alemu 23-03-90 BRN 28:41.23 Ritzenhein Dathan 30-12-82 USA 27:22.28 Gala Mumin 06-04-86 DJI 28:43.32 Bollen Frank 05-11-82 BEL 29:24.79 Rono Vincent 01-01-90 KEN 27:52.19 Kipkoech John 29:12.91 KEN n/a |

His chances are just as good as anyone else's. It would be hard to say that anyone else in the field has a clear advantage over him. Haile is clearly very fit but we have no idea where his kick is at. It is going to be an exciting race. |

For those top 4, I don't think that any of the other 3 guys are definitely unbeatable by Haile. Sihine hasn't been all that great in the last couple years, and while Merga is very good, he just doesn't strike me as a "big winner" type. He's good at coming in 3rd to 5th in respectable times, but no matter the pace, wins from him are uncommon. As for Gebremariam, when's the last time he ran a fast race at any distance shorter than half marathon? His Boston performance was pretty disastrous, so even if he's in good shape, I doubt he has the utmost confidence right now. All of this said, I think I would be stupid to think that Geb was the top pick to win, even after 2 solid road races post-Tokyo, but I actually do think he is likely to finish in the top 3. I just don't see Sihine, Merga, and Gebremariam having good races. As for other people, I think Tariku Bekele might actually contend, but the big question is whether he can hang on for the full 10k. Any word on K Bekele? Geb did say he was going to run, didn't he? |

I'm anxious to see who Merga knocks down in this one. |

Based on how Haile ran in Manchester last weekend it seems pretty likely that he'll be pushing the pace early to try to compensate for a diminished last kick. It worked against Kebede, Abshero and Makau, but here? |

my picks are Atsedu Sihine Merga Gebremariam Haile Haile will push the pace to avoid the final kick but it doesnt help. |

I'd go with Merga. He has been running well the last few years and has a nice kick. |

Wish I had been more direct about my intuition that Tariku Bekele was a potential top-dog here... |
