http://triathlon.competitor.com/2012/05/news/lance-armstrong-back-on-top_54072? "[..] I was running 5:47s on Sunday—and I don’t think I could have doubled that, but I do think I could have held that for 20 miles, which is encouraging for me." That is worth of a 2:34 Marathon. Not bad for a 41 years old after swimming 2.4 miles and riding 112 miles. |

Ummm...he only swam and biked half that. Anyway, he will be leading Kona after the bike. That's when the interesting part will start. |

he is one of the best endurance athletes of all time. i wouldnt call that prediction a stretch. he also probably knows the capabilities of his body better than just about everyone else in the world know their own |

Not too mention all the roids and PEDS he's done |

If he ran 1:15 for a stand-alone half, that projects a 2:39 stand-alone full marathon. No way. He couldn't get near that time when he attempted NY and Boston and he didn't swim and bike before the start of those. Was this one of those 12-mile halves that Ironman (R) is famous for? |

Someone said LA's garmin gave a reading of 500 meters short of a half marathon. So add a couple minutes. But LA did run 2:46 at NYCM, without much training. That's not so far off 2:39, is it? Plus, apparently it was close to 90 degrees when he ran 1:15ish. |
| hmmmmmm |

I say he hits right around 3:00 hrs in Kona for the run portion... Good for him, not good enough to win, but nothing to be ashamed about. I'll be cheering for him. I going to go with a top 10 finish this year. He'll get passed around the 15 mile mark. |

Is that a typical type of hat for triathlons? Does anyone know what kind of hat it is? |
| irony man . . . |

Yup. This will be great for TV. LA's swim is not bad. He will crush everyone on the bike. The 42.2 will be interesting. I think LA will run a great time, just under 3:00. Before that he will be on a faster pace and worry the contenders that maybe LA will not come back to them. Some contenders may will kill themselves trying to reel LA in. I think we'll see someone win Kona who was not expected. The TV drama will be great. This is something you'll have to be there to see live. It will be worth it. |

When is kona? |

I think Kona's in 2 weeks and it's a 1/2 ironman, so it will be another half marathon. |

Hawaii 70.3 is June 2nd, however, when people say "Kona", they are referring to the Hawaii Ironman on October 13th this year, not the 70.3 race. |
| Ironwhat? |

Ironman is Ironman. No matter if you call it 70.3 or full. It's like saying: I ran 26.2 miles vs. saying "I ran a Marathon". |
| disagree... |

You can't all of a sudden call 13.1 a marathon, you know why because it is half of a marathon. Just like a few years back the "marketers" of triathlon tried to make everything 70.3 and 140.6 an Iron-man. I was at a presentation when one of the schmuck execs said "70.3 isn't half of an iron-man, it is still an iron-man" well actually sir it is half, half of 140.6. A real Iron-man is and always will be 140.6. To all the wieners that think otherwise go look at yourself in the mirror in your tri suit a little longer. |

I agree to disagree. I ran an Ironman 70.3 Therefore I call myself Ironman. And I proudly have an Ironman sticker on my car. Jealous? |

I agree with this guy. I watched Ironman at the cinema and sat all the way through. Therefore I call myself Ironman - I even introduce myself as Ironman to new people. |

Back to the hat. Does anyone know? Thanks |

No, he did train for the 2:46. He originally ran a 2:53 or whatever for his first marathon and had only done like 40mpw for that one. |
| Lance...me too! |

I'm in approximately 1:14 half marathon shape and I could hold 5:47 pace for 20 miles too. But it's a whole lot harder to hold that pace for the last six miles when you are sucking wind and running out of stored energy. There's not enough Gu in the world to get him to the end at that same pace unless he improves between now and then. (In fact, I did hold that pace during a marathon and lost about 4 minutes on my overall time during the last 4 or 5 miles.) |
