If he indeed did pick them in Dec that's a pretty good prediction. The season was just four games old then. A lot of people thought an older team like SA might wear down from the compacted schedule they'd face this year. Popovich did a very good job resting his players throughout the season. Yes, they did end up 1 and 2 in the conference, but if you pick it early it counts.
Not a difficult prediction considering his 2 favorite teams are San Antonio and OKC. It's similar to putting your Alma Mater deep in the NCAA basketball bracket, every once in a while, it works out.
