Black people in America still think that society owes them something because their ancestors were treated badly. Unfortunately this idea has permeated much of American culture in general, and so people for some reason think American blacks are somehow not given anywhere near the same opportunities as every other ethnicity in this country, when in reality they are, they simply choose not to ever take advantage of them (as a whole).
I found it interesting that my African American Studies textbook blamed white people for every conceivable problem of American blacks yet also admitted the biggest thing holding American blacks down was that within black culture working hard and becoming educated are considered "acting white," which is very much looked down upon. It is no surprise that black people from other cultures who come to America (from the Caribbean, African nations, etc) drastically outperform American blacks when it comes to education and income. I've personally spoken with several who are quick to say American blacks are the laziest and most unappreciative group of people they've ever known. Those are their words, not mine. Unfortunately these are horribly politically incorrect views that will get any non-black person ostracized and banned from public speaking of any kind, which I can understand as it is not good to automatically assume everyone within a group is the same. As a whole, however, American blacks would do well to give up the crybaby attitude and instead try to apply themselves.
